BTW crazy how the old saying you can never have enough pitching is so true specially because you just never know what will happen to pitchers.
The Braves today non tendered Jair Jurjens and trade Tommy Hanson for a reliever.
Did they not just spend 138 million dollars on David Wright with his middle years being the most lucrative?
If they want to win in the next 2 or 3 years they are going to have to spend money LOL.
Dickey could be effective for the next 5 years. Do we know that he won't be?
Most good knuckleballers are effective into their 40s and no knuckleballer has ever had Dickey's knuckleball.
So to say he could not be in our plans that long is pretty presumptive when guys like Phil Niekro, Tim Wakefield, Charlie Hough pitched very effectively into their 40s.
LOL LOL LOL LOL.

Very true about never having too much pitching. We all saw this coming with Hanson. Velocity dropped below 90mph and couldnt get out of the 5th inning. Shoulder and back injuries were the results of his unorthodox delivery. He was also getting expensive being Boras client.
So the Braves got a solid return. An all star reliever who throws 100mph who closed 33 games for the Angels. Add him to the best bullpen in the majors alongside Kimbrel, O'Flaherty and Venters, then you really shorten games to 5 innings most of the nights. it was good move for the Braves.
The Braves will have both Upton brothers in their outfield come ST.
I don't want the Mets signing any big name free agents. Particularly if they are over 30 years old. Building through the draft and trades is the way to go.
It's really hard to predict how free agents are going to do on either of the NY teams. When players sign with these NY teams, they also tend to sign bigger deals, as well. That's why re-signing Dickey is important. He has proven he can play there.
The thing is you never know which guy will have long lasting success, who will be a guy that has an excellent run for 10+ years or the guy like Jurjens and Kazmir who flame out out after a handful of years. You do not want to be the GM who traded away a Pedro Martinez or at a young age because of health concerns and miss out on one of the best ever.
The hold up is Dbacks are asking for Anderlton Simmons in the trade. Braves dont want to trade him. I dont blame them. You cant fill a hole and create another in the process. No legit SS option for the Braves at the moment.
Both Justin and BJ came out and said they would like to play together after BJ signed with the Braves. Good news for the Braves, I guess.
