Jaguars place Blaine Gabbert and Laurent Robinson on injured reserve; sign quarterback Jordan Palmer and wide receiver Carlton Mitchell
The Jacksonville Jaguars made several roster moves today. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert(right forearm/left shoulder) and wide receiver Laurent Robinson(concussion) were placed on injured reserve. Fourth-year quarterback Jordan Palmer and third-year wide receiver Carlton Mitchell were signed to the 53-man roster. Fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou was signed to the club’s practice squad and rookie defensive end Ryan Davis was waived from the practice squad.
Palmer is back for his second stint with the Jaguars after spending the 2012 preseason with the club where he completed 19 of 36 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown in three games. The fourth-year pro was signed by the Jaguars on May 7 after attending a three-day rookie minicamp on a workout basis. He spent four seasons (2008-11) with Cincinnati and saw action in four games, playing under Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski. His career totals include 10 of 15 passing for 59 yards with two interceptions.
Mitchell, 6-3, 215, spent two seasons (2010-11) with Cleveland after he was selected in the sixth round of the 2010 draft. He played in 16 games for the Browns and totaled three receptions for 31 yards. He spent the 2012 preseason with the Browns before he waived on final cuts.
The Gainesville, Florida native played in 37 games with 18 starts at South Florida. He finished his career with 105 receptions for 1,648 yards and nine touchdowns. Mitchell set the school’s single-season record as a senior with 706 yards on a team-high 40 receptions. He attended Gaither High School in Tampa where he lettered in football and basketball.
