Again with this sophistry? Right. The teams that win Super Bowls never party. They're comprised of choir boys and eunuch monks.
If you believe that, just wait for the tell-all biographies that usually surface when player's careers are done. Hell, even golden boy Tom Brady is no exception. He had ample time to date and knock up two different celebrity women at about the same time, one of whom is/was rumored to be a bad girl world travelling model in her own right. Birds of a feather "flocking" the hell out of each other. Because his last name is not Cromartie everyone gives him a pass. But don't tell me that he spent all of his time studying film and burying his head in the playbook. No, he was burying his head elsewhere and frolicking like a rock star. (And I don't blame him!)
You'd be hard pressed to pick a single Super Bowl champion team that didn't have a few players that liked living on the edge. There is nothing like the NFL lifestyle. It is beyond silly to view it with Puritan lenses. Some of these guys are going to walk the straight and narrow, but MOST are going to enjoy it to the fullest. This should come as no surprise to anyone.
"Why can't we tell the world that [as the Raiders' coach] you refused to play games in the segregated South, holding out to the point where they were canceled?' And he would stop me dead in my tracks and say, 'Hey, kid -- I didn't do it for publicity. I did it because it was right.' "
