    Stats from raw data

Does anybody know of some statistics you can calculate with regular every game data? For example, OPS. All you need is On base and slugging which you can figure out through regular stats.

But I know other stats require you to know the league average etc..

I'd like to be able to calculate some more advanced statistics that come from stuff you can get from a box score.

    Thanks

Is there a particular reason you want to calculate it yourself? There are sites like fangraphs and BR that have the stats listed. And fangraphs even has the formula for a lot of them.

From the box score tho if that's the route you want to go, OPS is your best best. The others, in order to make them more accurate, are compared to some kind of average, or multiplied by a constant, etc.
You have no idea how excited I am right now.

Even OPS is a bit meaningless if you don't know league average.

By that logic everything is. If you dont know that 30 HR or something is a lot, then seeing HR totals doesnt really matter.

You dont need the average to calculate it tho, and that was what the OP was saying.
