Heyman: Yankees One of Seven Teams Interested in Victorino

Another good clubhouse guy from my time covering the Phillies minor league system, Shane Victorino is reportedly on the Yankees radar.

According to Jon Heyman, there are “at least” seven teams interested in Victorino, and the Yankees are among them. However, Heyman also notes that some teams are willing to give Victorino a three-year deal, and that doesn’t seem like the kind of commitment the Yankees are looking for.

Victorino would be a strong defensive right fielder, and he’d give the Yankees another switch hitter. He’s coming off a down season, but even then remained productive against left-handers (something the Yankees need). There are a lot of things to like about Victorino, but he’s far from a sure thing. As with everyone on the market, the Yankees interest in Victorino could hinge on money and years.

I posted something about this in the off season thread. A few teams may offer him a 3 year deal. Which it doesn't look like they will offer him a 3 year deal so I don't see him coming here.

Yanks better not even think of doing that. If we sign Victorino it is for 2 years max, but that also means we do not re-sign Ichiro. In other words, no thanks.

Victorino saw some serious production fall off last season.

We could use the help and I dont think the 2 vs. 3 year argument is really going to have a hughe impact performance wise. Ichior may have to be relegated to 4th outfielder status and there are some on these boards who have been calling for this way before the Victorino rumor even got started.

For me, everything wouldve been a lot easier had they signed Willingham when they had the chance.

And so, a new era begins.....

I wonder how much of his fall-off was due to the fact that he was the best of what was left in Philly? He was surrounded by Howard, Utley...etc.. suddenly, it was just him.

The fall off season may also lower his contract demands some as well.

One year, that all I'd want him for.

Ichiro for 1 year is better but I acually like victorino and if the price was right I'd take him even at 2 years
