    Eagles Release Jason Babin

Sorry I haven't been very active lately guys, been really busy at work and in life. Been trying to stay up to date reading on here though. Thought I'd throw this on here quick.

    Adam Schefter
Philadelphia Eagles announced they have released DE Jason Babin.
    Thoughts?

I personally don't necessarily think he fits. Worth a look though.

    1. He doesn't fit, and 2. He definitely won't clear waivers.

The Eagles are almost as funny to watch implode as the Jets.
    Perfection.

Eagles fans were killing this guy. I'm fine with who we have. Let's see some Jake Bequette!

I normally am against this type of move, but the pass-rush has been pretty weak at times. I doubt the Pats will get him anyway (waivers), but Ninko and Cunningham are already among the most inefficient pass-rushers in the NFL, and losing Cunningham hurts depth even more.

It is true that he isn't a great fit, but as a situational pass-rusher (Mark Anderson ring a bell), he could have some success in New England.

He only fits well in a wide nine formation, which we don't run. He's also a major liability against the run. No thanks.

I'm against it, because I honestly want to see us utilize what we have first. I think we have 3 great options.

    1. Bequette being the most intriguing to me. In the pre-season he seemed like he was gonna have a huge impact and then came the regular season and he has been given little to no chance.

    2. Justin Francis could provide an interesting option.

    3. Hightower. He played that position in college at times, and while not the prototypical DE he is a big and fast player for his size and think he would do well there.

I don't think it would hurt if we signed a pass rusher who was one of the top pass rushers last season.

I bet a new change of scenery would do WONDERS for Babin

    Sure it would.

2012: Owed $1.64 million for the remaining 5 games.
2013: Owed $4.225 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $100,000 in a workout bonus
2014: Owed $6 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $175,000 in a workout bonus
2015: Owed $6 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $150,000 in a workout bonus
    2016: Free agent

*Note: If Babin produces 2.5 more sacks in 2012, his base salary for 2013 would escalate by $400,000; if he produces 4.5 more sacks in 2012, his base salary for 2013 would escalate by $500,000.
Babin has had two great seasons one of 12.5 and one of 18 sacks.
Outside of that he has never had more than five, or an average of 3.8 sacks( 6 season total of 23 sacks, excluding his two big year).
That is not worth 4-6 million per a season when we have players capable of averaging 3.8 sacks a season, 3 of which I outlined above, at a much cheaper cost than Babin who is nothing more than a situational pass rusher. He is very weak against the run. Yes is a know name, but that doesnt mean we should be in on him. We already have we he can give us on this team.
