It sounds like everything is "healthy" and structurally sound. It's safe for him to play. It's just whether he can play.. I'm a bit confused by all this because if he's healthy and all then why wouldn't he be able to play? Seems like he'll need one more week to get ready, although I still don't see what's keeping him from playing this week.

Him being "healthy" doesn't mean he is not still in pain. My guess is he is hurting a lot still.

My point is though, if he's still in pain, then he's not healthy. If you are healthy, then you aren't in pain.

Anyways it does seem like he's still in pain and it's affecting his ability. I'm quite sure he's still bette than Charlie Batch, but that's probably not how they'll evaluate him. I wish he had a few more days to get ready.

Ben Roethlisberger (ribs, shoulder) said Thursday that his availability for Week 13 at Baltimore depends on arm strength and ability.
"Can I make a long throw? Can I put a lot of zip on the ball, throw it really hard before people like Ed Reed and defenders can get to the ball?" said Roethlisberger. "Because if I can't I'm not putting this team in the best situation to win the game." Big Ben has been assured by doctors that his aorta is no longer in danger of being punctured by his dislocated rib. The question is whether the Steelers will play him behind a reshuffled offensive line if his range of motion isn't there. "There's always a chance," said Roethlisberger.

Todd Haley: "It was a positive... a good start" Ben was throwing before practice. Team is "keeping the door open"...but seems very unlikely

He ain't gonna play this week barring a miracle. Next week though.

This is what separates Ben now from Ben a couple of years ago. He's matured a LOT.

Sit his *** out until our Franchise QB, is able to come back. Whether it's 1 more week, or 3 more weeks. I want playoffs, and the North just as bad. He's taking steps to get his arm NFL ready. Get better Ben! We miss you

I mean we need him to play. As long as the ribs are HEALED, and it's pain tolerance, he's still better than freaking Batch. It seems the risk of re-injury are gone, and if he gets hurt it'll simply be a separate injury. Even if he can't throw it deep he's still better than Batch who can't throw it deep either and has no zip on his throws.

DeCastro was walking without a limp like a month or two ago and technically could have played as early as the Giants game, but we're still not even sure if he's making his debut now, three weeks later. I like that we've apparently learned our lesson with all the re-injuries Woodley and Polamalu have experienced. I'm ok with sitting Ben another week, we all saw what happened against the 49ers last year.

If Ben can play, he should play. I just don't see us winning this game without him, and we are really fighting for a playoff spot now, as opposed to where we were 3 weeks ago, when we were basically guaranteed a spot as long as we won a few games.

This is GREAT news. Sad to see him get injured, as he has been having a very good rookie year. But that takes away one of Dalton's threats.

Good move to keep Ben out this week after hearing this, even though this definitely isn't the reason why he's not playing.
