If you look at it from the Royals pov, you are trading a top 5 prospect in baseball, and arguably the best hitting prospect, for a non-elite pitcher. If I was a Royals fan I would be very angry. You trade Myers for someone like David Price. This is a no-brainer, it just hurts because it means this team will be farther away from competing.

I would assume so because the system would have a top 5 prospect to go along with one that's fringe top 10 and 2 others that are in the top 40 and the depth too with Owens, Cecchini, Webster etc.

Source confirms @Royals_Report report: Red Sox, Royals talked deal involving Lester, Wil Myers, others. Nothing close http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/th...ed-lester-deal

According to a major league source, the Red Sox have discussed a deal that would include sending Jon Lester to Kansas City, with the Royals' top prospect, outfielder Wil Myers, potentially going to Boston. Also discussed was the possibility of sending outfield help to the Royals, with pitching going back to the Sox. Any such deal wasn't classified as being close, with the Royals also looking into acquiring Tampa Bay starter James Shields in a separate package of players.

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star was first to report the talks.

The 22-year-old Myers is one of the most coveted minor leaguers in baseball, having come off a 2012 season in which he hit a combined .317 with a .987 and 37 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound outfielder -- who has played the majority of his time in center field -- was drafted out of Wesylan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.) in the third round of the 2009 draft.

Kansas City is looking for an anchor to its starting rotation, having already traded for Ervin Santana and re-signed Jeremy Guthrie this offseason. Lester, who will make $11.625 million in '13, with the team holding a $13 million club option for '14, is coming off a 9-14 season in which he totaled a 4.82 ERA. The 28-year-old had won at least 15 games in each of his previous four seasons.
If the Royals are willing, I think it would be dumb not to do it.

Wait and we'd get a pitcher back too? I would guess the OF would be a small loss especially seeing that we'd be getting Myers.

I'd include Brentz to get a better pitcher, I don't know who on the Royals would qualify. Myers would make Brentz redundant though, and a trade candidate.

Lester has out earned Price (B-R WAR) from 2009 to date. This season was the first in which Price outpaced him in any single season. I think you're selling low on Lester... and on Price. Dealing front-line pitching, especially if discounted for a bad season, is risky.

Assume that we do it. Anyone up for a subsequent deal centered on Jacoby and Cliff Lee?

Hell Id do this in a heartbeat if i were the Sox. I know Lester is a valuable pitcher, but we are getting back the top ranked prospect in baseball.
    The name is Amendola....

Interesting. Can't think of any of their starters that I would actually want. So a pitching prospect maybe? They have some decent mid-rotation type arms like Odorizzi or Smith.

If the Sox traded Lester I'd imagine they already have something worked up to get a front line starter. Maybe it's Ellsbury traded or they sign someone like Haren? I would think if it was signing Haren they'd have to make another move or your staff looks like this.

    Haren
    Buchholz
    Lackey
    Douby

This is absolute crap. No way a one for one. Talk about the catcher and Gordon and forget the spec. And replace Lester w/ Buchholz.

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

Ellsbury is not even worth a good #3 SP unless he has one year of control left. A #1? No.

And does anyone believe Haren is a good bet to be the #1 year in year out in Boston?
