Did you watch him in college? He is fragile, so why not use a 4th or 5th on a QB? especially since we have an extra 4th. He got injured several games in his rookie year, he missed the WC game...you really want Joe Webb starting? I guess maybe we can add a vet, but we should keep our eyes open for some mid-draft talent at QB.

I have no problem with getting a back up.

It's fair to call him fragile if he's missing significant time. He plays through injuries, though. I don't think of fragile when I think of Christian Ponder.

I really think we have a need at backup QB, but the draft isn't our best option, imo. We already have a developmental project in MBT, what we really need is a FA who wouldn't be real threatening to Ponder's job and ideally has the same skill set.

Someone mentioned Chase Daniel, I thought that was brilliant. He has similar traits, and he's good enough to push Ponder as well.

I don't mind the the Daniel name, but his lack of experience would hesitate me. Again, I like the name on the surface, but getting a guy who has seen it before interests me just a little more.

He missed one game, albeit a big one, but one game doesn't make someone injury prone. Nope, sorry.
So lets just ignore his other injuries then? (including the ones that either left him physically unable to play in the middle of the game or degraded his performance to the point that he was useless and had to be benched)

Playing through injuries is the best thing in the world, just ask Pittsburgh how much luck they've had with that strategy in the past two years. Like it or not Ponder is no Iron Man and we need to have a backup QB who we can be confident in, not someone who will make us try make Ponder try to ride out an injury.

Chase Daniel would be the perfect signing. His game has always been good, and learning under drew and having the time to develope even more is a no brainer to me. Chase is very football smart and has the instincts to go with his game.

Its also true that he's only attempted 9 NFL passes though. I have a feeling that Aaron Kromer is going to put in a good word for him in Chicago and he'll end up their #2. We could do much worse for a backup, there isn't really any great ones out there, they're all fatally flawed in one way shape or form (the ones with experience are pretty brutal and some of the ones that could be decent have very little game time). Not a good year for backup QBs.

That doesn't make him injury prone lol. And no, I don't take his college career into account when he's two years removed from it.

So you don't think the repeated injuries and surgeries to his arm have anything to do with his lack of arm strength going into the NFL?

Also, you might want to ask RG*** how his knee feels two years removed from his ACL tear in college. The scars these guys have are going to be carried with them throughout their lives, what league they're in has nothing to do with it.

I wouldn't call Ponder injury prone but "fragile" seems to be an appropriate term. By no means is he the Manning boys. Maybe it's just me but Ponder is listed at 6'2", same height as Aaron Rodgers, but it always seems to me that he is smaller than him when I see them on the field. Ponder almost seems like he's just 6' tall.

Yeah, Ponder is neither fragile or injury prone.

    Some people are funny.

He isn't always 100%, so he's fragile and injury prone. That's your logic.

You could say that about every NFL player lol.

No, my logic is that he has had several injuries going back as far as his college days which have caused him to miss time (as well as degraded his performance in some cases), a trend which has continued into his NFL career as well. You can't say that about every NFL player at all.

He isn't Chad Pennington, I doubt his arm is going to fall off, but he is surely no Brett Favre either. You can't say he's not injury prone just by cherry-picking what you look at ruling out the rest, that's not sound thinking. He has had and continues to have problems with his arm (you know the one that cost him his chance to play in the wild card game) which coincidentally could have something to do with his relatively poor arm strength and inconsistent deep passing ability.

All said and done, we need to have a backup QB who the coaches aren't afraid to use. We shouldn't be making Ponder play through anything other than very routine injuries because no good will come of it.

Very true you could say that about every player. My logic behind the "fragile" label is likely I just don't follow other teams close enough to know what their QB's health status is. Most of us read this site everyday so any injury during the season we are going to see. The very same thing is likely going on in other team forums as well...we just don't see it everyday so our assumptions may be different.
