The point isn't that Stanton may be available. We don't have the pieces to get him. Every team in the majors would love Stanton. And I'm sure most could make a more compelling offer than us. Do we have a top 50 prospect in baseball to offer? I'll bet plenty of other teams do.

Hate to be revisionist but just for fun I looked up top 50 rankings... 4 Yankees pop up in almost all. Williams, Austin, Banuelos (way down from last year) and Sanchez and Heathcott pops up in like 2.

So yeah that's roughly 1/10th of most scouts top 50... More than enough to entice Loria.

If the Dodgers were to sign Pierzynski, it could make a trade candidate of current Los Angeles catcher A.J. Ellis, who had an impressive .270/.373/.414 slash line in 505 plate appearances last season. The likelier scenario is that Ellis becomes Pierzynski's backup, relegating incumbent backup Tim Federowicz back to the minors.

If Dodgers sign AJ, we could trade for Ellis, which would solve our long term catching spot until Sanchez is ready.

They offered martin a 2 year deal between 12-14 million. As per Heyman

As per other's- Yankees never offered martin a deal at all.

After the shock of losing him, throwing my empty can against the wall, then getting another and drinking a beer then reading other more sane posts: I'm ok.

Martin was way too expensive for what he did at the plate, and I don't care what someone tells me about handling the staff and such, go pack salt martin, your not a Yankee anymore fu (mildly)
