Honest question: Do the Knicks need Stoudemire as a second star?

So our team is sitting here at 9-3, playing pretty well this season, with a couple of embarrassing losses.

Melo is on fire, averaging almost 26 on 47% shooting. But this league has proved to be a league where you need multiple stars to win a championship. Jordan didn't do it himself, Kobe didn't do it himself and LeBron didn't do it himself.

The Knicks have a few guys in their lineup where if they had a really great year, could make an All-Star team or have All-Star potential, like Felton, Smith or Chandler.

But what's concerning about this season is when the Knicks don't have answers when Melo is double and triple teamed. And this team is looking far too much like the Ewing' Knicks, with Felton, Smith and Chandler played the Oakley, Mason and Starks roles of the supporting cast. Not to mention that Woodson's main philosophy is defense, just like that team was.

Picture this: Second round of the playoffs and Miami's ferocious defense taking Melo out of the game. Who do the Knicks go to for a consistent 20-25? It needs to be Amare.

Despite fans clamoring that Amare will ruin the chemistry or not be able to mesh with Melo, the fact is they need him to. They need him to come back healthy, if he can and explode alongside Melo.

You put an explosive Amare of 2010-11 in this lineup and then the Knicks truly are scary. You can't replace 20-22 and 9 on any given night and I believe Amare can still give them that.

there are a lot of times every game that i feel like we could use amare. woody should play amare 30 mins a game and set it up so that whenever melo sits, he's out there. i would also like to see, for short bursts, amare at the 5, melo at the 4, JR at the 3, Kidd at the 2 and Felton at the 1.

Way to ignore the main point. It's not about having the number 1 offense in the league, it's about playing the Heat in the playoffs and then completely taking Melo out of the game.

Whose going to step up for 20 a night?

    Amare.

Yes, these last couple of games should have opened fans' eyes big time. We def need Amare in the mix and with Kidd and Felton the offense won't look like last years.

If you get to Ignore the the bad defense, Rebounding, boxing out, floor spacing issues and the fact the AMRI has not been that MVP-half season player for almost 2 years now, I think it's fair I get to ignore some what if scenario as well.

The team is playing great offensively, maybe what they need is to keep things rolling as the BEST OFFENSIVE TEAM IN THE LEAGUE (Last time I checked).

The biggest benefit of Amare coming back is the drop in minutes for our bigs. Nobody will ever play TOO MANY minutes. Tyson, Camby, Sheed and Stat will never go above 25. Maybe Amare in games where he has it rolling

You can't be the teams "second STAR!!" playing 25 minutes a game.

I say we force AMRI in there, because things can only be good right??? 20 and 8 is 20 and 8, who cares what TC and Melo does because the Heat can't shut them down if they are already struggling.

I agree about the defense, but the floor spacing issues can be corrected and Amare's 8-9 rebounds a game are way better than what anyone else is giving you right now.

And Melo shouldn't be playing PF, especially against a team like the Rockets or Mavs, it made no sense.

We are going no where without Amare. This team has the ability to sustain injury, that's what we are doing with Amare out, but that doesn't mean we win against championship caliber teams without him.

We are heavily 3 pt dependent right now. Very little mid range game. Outside of Melo we are non existant in the post play. Maybe Amare (with his new moves) can help us with that.

Thanx to Yash for the ill sig
