Hall of really good but I wouldn't put him any higher.

As Jeffy said, there are more deserving players ahead.

    He isn't.

Good guy (strong character) but his numbers aren't that close to deserving.

And Andre Dawson isn't a good comp, he shouldn't be in either, but Dawson was significantly better than Murphy.
this, good guy and good player(dawson was much better),but to steep and drawn out decline

His comps are Al Oliver, Dave Parker, Rusty Staub, Jack Clark, Bernie Williams, Cesar Cedeno and Ellis Burks

None of these guys are hall of famers, and all but two of them had better WAR than Murphy did.

Nope, he was a very good player, but not a HOF player.

Thanks for adding the poll. IMO I think his prime years were just too short to make it. He is pretty much my definition of a borderline HOFer

    This.

It's a great question though! Dale was a good player, very consistent, and def worthy of being in the HOF conversation. Unfortunately, he falls short.

I'm more worried about the atrocity of Jack Morris being elected in.

I will refuse to take the hall of fame seriously if this happens.

It wouldn't bother me if Murphy got in. If that makes me a "Big Hall" guy, then that's fine.

I put Murphy and Mattingly in the same category. They both were clearly Hall of Fame talents that got held up by injuries. They both fall short with lack of longevity without postseason boosts, but once the Hall expands even more than it has, I think they could go in someday.

If he gets elected, I don't see how guys like Pettitte don't get in when his time comes. As much as I would love to see Andy get in, if it meant having Morris get in first, then no.

Tommy John should be in before Morris.

Pettitte is on the fringe of even the most generous vote before the PED exposure and eventual admission. His chances now are infinitesimal.

And as for Murphy, very good player but absolutely not a hall of famer.
