Swisher should be making $8M. I'll be generous and say 9 per year.
If only he didn't choke in the post season...he may have gotten his Jason Werth contract. Oh well.
An additional item to consider from the business end:
ZERO people buy tickets to see Nick Swisher. Zero. Hence, no added revenue due to name.
Now, I ask you......why in the fk would u pay him $15m per year when you can pay Josh $20-25m per year and make a zillion dollars in extra ticket and merchandise sales?
Oh, and also get a complete monster of a player vs an average joe.
Anyone? Bueller?
Leo's Thought Of The Day
It has more to do with the length of the contract rather than the dollar amount. Swisher is more likely to accept a 3 years deal while Hamilton will likely be looking for a 5+ year deal. With Hamilton's various injury problems, that is a risky situation for the Yankees to put themselves in.
Because the team won't pay Hamilton?
Obviously if its between Hamilton and Swisher I'd take Hamilton.
But its between Swisher and Ichiro basically.

I'm pretty interested in seeing what Hamilton actually gets. There's been reports on teams definitely not giving him more than 4 years. I know its early and a lot can change though. And normally with free agents I can see teams saying this just to get the price down, but I could definitely see teams being nervous about him with his history and sticking to 4 years.
In the end it'll just make it harder when he signs somewhere else for 4 years and the Yankees are picking through the 40 year old scrap heap for a RF.
I thought I read somewhere Texas wont go beyond 3 years. I've seen Seattle and Milwaukee as potential players for Hamilton. Boston as well. With teams becoming weary of long contracts and the Yankees wanting to reduce payroll, could this actual be a bargain signing for us? I mean, if Hamilton would reduce the amount and years as he orginally wanted, is 5 years 20 million per too much? Maybe even 4 years 90 million? I just dont think he is going to get the 7 year 200+ mil he was hoping for. Take advantage of the weak market.
