    White Sox Sign Dewayne Wise/ 1yr, 700k

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $700,000 contract with outfielder Dewayne Wise.

Wise, 34, combined to bat .259 (58-224) with career highs of eight home runs, 30 RBI, 31 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 101 games with New York-AL and the White Sox.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Wise signed with Chicago as a free agent on August 3, hitting .258 (42-163) with five homers, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored and 12 steals in 45 games. He made 28 starts in center field, eight in left and two in right in his second stint with the club.

Wise, who bats and throws left-handed, is a career .228 (238-1,045) hitter with 30 home runs and 112 RBI in 546 games over parts of 10 major-league seasons with Toronto (2000, 2002, 2010-11), Atlanta (2004), Cincinnati (2006-07), the White Sox (2008-09, 2012), Florida (2011) and the Yankees (2012).

He preserved Mark Buehrle's perfect game on July 23, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay by making an over-the-wall catch to deny Gabe Kapler of a home run leading off the ninth inning.

The White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.

I like that the White Sox have depth in the OF right now with Rios, De Aza, Viciedo, Wise and Jor. Danks.

If we end up trading Rios, Wise could likely ending up starting.

Why don't you give a constructive comment instead of coming in and being a complete douchebag? If you are going to be a douchebag go do it in another forum.

Seriously, are we ever going to get rid of him? He puts up good numbers for 30 AB's and then gets exposed again and is terrible. Waste of money and a roster spot. Jordan Danks is a far better option. Heck, I'd take Tekotte over Wise too. What are the numbers for Wise? 7 minor league contracts in the last 3 years. If that doesn't tell you he doesn't belong in the majors, I don't know what does. I liked KW as a GM and I think Hahn will be a good one for years to come. Wise is one of the blemishes on both of their tenures.

It's hard to get worked up ovef a signing like this.
If he doesn't get it done he will be DFA'd. I don't see the problem. Fukudome was let go in may IIRC. Same kind of deal.

My issue is, based on history, the White Sox will DFA him by May. He'll sign a minor league deal (probably in Toronto). He'll get DFA'd by whichever team signed him in July. By August, the White Sox will re-sign him again. He'll play well for about 10 games, work his way into a starting spot, do terrible in September and the White Sox will sign him again next off-season. It's a never ending cycle of mediocrity (actually, it's worse than mediocre). He just needs to get released and go un-signed, retire, and be happy with the $2 mil he's made over his career.

I would say that if his comment helps even one person realize that Wise is not a good baseball player, then it was a very useful post.

    This.

It's not Wise in and of himself. It's the stupid decisions managers seem to make when he's around. It's like he has some reality distortion field surrounding him.

Hopefully he leads off and we bring back Jerry Owens.

I want the White Sox to start collecting failed leadoff hitters.
