I do not see this signing as a white flag on Ross, either. I think the interest is mutual.
Gomes is more comfortable in LF. To me, a platoon of Gomes/Ryan Kalish makes an awful lot of sense, with Ells in CF, and Ross in RF.
That's a lot of likeable right there.
Here's to feeling good all the time.
@JonHeymanCBS: Gomes was said seeking $3-4M per. Doesn't mean he got that. Anything close would be a raise from $1M made in '12 #RedSox
@susanslusser: #RedSox exec told me recently that Gomes' leadership ability a big plus for them.
One thing's forsure, we're going to have one of the better benches in the AL.
(As it stands now)
I still think our regular everyday starting short stop will be acquired through trade.
I originally expected them to sign Ludwick as Ross' replacement, but it turned out to be Gomes. I mean Ross is as good as gone, that's pretty clear if you ask me.
And I kinda agree with J-Bay, I wouldn't be susprised if we sign Hamilton. Doesn't mean I want him, just a gut feeling. Something big is gonna happen, either JH or JUpton. And if we were to keep Ells, that would be an extraordinary line-up.
Ellsbury, Pedroia, Ortiz, Hamilton, Napoli/Berkman, WMB , Gomes, Salty/Ross, Drew/Iggy
Pitching would still kill us, though.
Edit: Not gonna happen, they won't put JH in RF, so either Ells or him.

I like it way more than 3 years of overpriced Ross.
Don't see the Hamilton speculation as relevant btw. Hamilton is a LF as is Gomes. Kalish or Sweeney/Gomes platoon in LF is what i think we'll see.
lets see in 99 games Gomes had 18 hrs. if he played 130 like Ross did he'd probably have 20+ Hrs maybe 25? but that wont happen next year since hes doing a platoon role
