    thaddeus young as starter

before the season, a lot of people here were dismissing the potential of thaddeus young being a starter. the arguments against him ranged from him being not being big enough, to him not being a good enough rebounder, to him not being able to handle 35 minutes per game, to him only playing well because he was matched up against backups.

he's now played 11 games this season, and he's started all 11.

so, my question to the rest of this board is, now that you've seen him as a starter, are you more or less confident about him being in the starting lineup, and do you want him in the starting lineup.

Not more or less confident. We all know the kind of player he is... can't defend his position or rebound.

Only slightly more confident id rather him be on the bench though and the only reason ive liked what ive seen is BECAUSE he got bigger.
Also i would still cringe if we started him at the 3 like many wanted.

    thaddeus young as starter

It's not like we have a significantly better option to start at the 4. Brand's gone. The Hawes experiment never happened. Lavoy is solid but he's not a difference maker by any means. Given our roster, I'm fine with Thad starting. He's playing pretty well overall this season. He looks good.

His one on one post defense against taller 4s leaves a lot to be desired.

Hes playing well tho, and rebouding better than id have guessed.

Settles in the post too much when he should be taking guys like bargnani off the dribble

he is rebounding just fine. pullin down 7 a game.

He is trying to establish ihmself as a PF it seems like. He is scoring more in the paint while shooting and driving less. Guess we kind of need him to playin the paint when he can since Hawes sure cant and LaVoy likes his jumpers too.

The way Collins uses him, Thad is without doubt more useful to the Sixers with the added muscle....particularly during the post season. At the lighter size, he was beasted in the post season last year.....shouldn't have even been on the court most games.

At the bigger size he's decent as a starter in the regular season, and maybe as a 15-25 minute guy depending on the matchups off the bench in the post season.

But please lord, trade him....too much money.

I would also like to trade thad....

But a big part of me wouldnt do it for just a salary dump.... Especially if bynum comes back, thad becomes more valuable in thr post season.

The question is, who wants thad, and what do we want for him?

I can't envision any scenario where Thad becomes more valuable in the post season than he is right now in the regular season.....Bynum or no Bynum.

For years now, I would have been content with a mid to late 1st round pick. My stance hasn't changed, but with him starting and playing well, we might get better value for him.

I think potentially bynum can cover a lot of thads weaknesses. I also think that worh bynum in the low block, thad would face up more against slower 4s rather than attempting to beat them w post moves.... Which would be more effective for him.... And he may also be able to hit bynum for the big-to-big pass (a la joakim noah).

Just a possibility, we wont know til we see it.

But the real question remains, who wants thad, and what do we want for him?

He has played well. No big complaints about Thad this season. Lavoy and Kwame on the other hand...

He is averaging 5.5 defensive rebounds in 35 minutes. I am sorry but that is pathetic for a starting PF.

I think Bobcats might have an interest for something that includes Bismack. And I'm not even sure of that. Right now, I think Thad is probably plan B, C, or D for a half dozen teams going into the offseason.....for the most part the franchises that are so-so, starless, and desperate to avoid the lottery.

But trading Thad this very moment is tricky unless it's for an expiring and a protected pick.
