Cubs trade Jake Brigham back to Texas...

For Barret Loux and a player to be named...

Loux, 23, was named the 2012 Double-A Texas League Pitcher of the Year after going 14-1 with a 3.47 ERA in 25 regular-season starts with Frisco. He helped the team reach the Texas League Championship Series, led the league in wins and finished sixth in ERA while striking out 100 batters and walking 41 over 127 innings.

Man the Rangers must love Brigham!

He was 2010 draft pick. AA is pretty normal for this point in his pro career.

Didn't see it mentioned elsewhere, but this was a revisit of the Soto trade. Brigham got hurt immediately and we agreed to settle it with them after the season.

23 is age appropriate for AA IMO

One think to consider with the Rangers AA team, it is in Frisco, TX .. which is about 30/40 miles from where the Rangers play in Arlington ... they called up several players from Frisco last year when they needed fill-ins ... it seems at times, the AA team has a better roster than the AAA team.

What seems strange to me is that the Cubs

send a guy with a bad arm back to Texas
    and get
A pitcher that went 14-1 AND A PLAYER TO BE NAMED

    What gives?

Wasn't the deal Soto and a PTBNL in the first place?

    Could have been...

Seems like a great hall for an aging catcher in decline....

They sent back a currently sore-armed pitcher who has the upside to be a pretty good middle reliever.

They got back a pitcher everyone expects to be sore-armed at some point in his career who has the potential to be a barely useful starting pitcher.

It's not a bad move, but it's not some kind of win either. It's just swapping around spare parts.

Texas non tendered jake Bingham and geo soto. This trade keeps looking better for the cubs.
