Getting Moose lessens the feeling of perhaps having whiffed on Vitters? I dunno.

24 year old strong defensive 3rd basement with 20+hr power in an era with few talented 3b?

Strong defensive 3B is entirely in question. One year of good defensive metrics doesn't do it for me, especially from a guy who did not come up with a strong defensive reputation.

    He's the new Brian Roberts.

If we can steal a young 3B I am on the Nolan Arenado bandwagon.

Apparently their also looking to deal Ryan Wheeler too who they just traded for. We had interest in Wheeler earlier I guess.

Moose's defense has largely been ARam-esk...can be good, can be awful...

His value is in his bat and substantial amount of upside...

Rockies are an underrated trade partner with a ton of young arms that still need coaching, a loaded infield away from 1B, and a ready 3B prospect that they might be frustrated with.
With Tulo, Gonzalez, Fowler, and others forming a strong lineup I think they would be very interested in Samardzija.

Shark and A. Cabrera (or something) for Arenado, Chatwood, Matzek, and Joe Gardner.

Trading Samardzija makes little sense. We have the rare opportunity to have a mid to top of the rotation starter in the most productive years of his career on what will likely be a hometown discount on his next deal. He wants to be a Cub. Glamorous (thank you, Fergie!) as prospects may be, they are still unknowns.

Little isn't none, and I'm certainly not losing sleep if he brings back strong talent.

Because the Cubs have never been burned before by not selling high on a guy who post a crazy high fWAR and peripherals for one season...

I think with the right moves we can be competitive faster than people think. I would sign Samardzja to a 5 or 6 year deal that buys out his first 2/3 years of free agency.

There is no point in dealing Garza right now since his value is so low. If someone throws out some offers that are as good as the ones before his deadline injury I would pull the trigger but its doubtful that happens. If he comes back and shows he's healthy then I would entertain signing him long term if he's open to a fair deal.

If it works out then we would have two top of the rotation starters, throw in a good signing of a number 3 this offseason and we could at least be competitive this next year.

Can't find confirmation, but it was tweeted that Randy Wells has signed with the Rangers.
