Chone Figgins has essentially been the Koyie Hill of infielders these past three seasons.

LETS GO CUBBIES...LETS GO DUKE!!!
He didnt say it would happen to barney while on cubs, giving examples of players who are candidates who could make a switch (ie if barney were traded)

Yeah, I read it as Barney moving to SS for another team that has a 3B to offer, and/or another infielder moving to 3B for the Cubs.
With all the smoke around the Cubs and Tigers talking over the past year or so (Garza, Soriano, Barney, Porcello, etc), I think the logical structure of the deal ABTY is suggesting is Barney+ for Porcello/Peralta (with the "+" from the Cubs side being Soriano & cash, Marmol, or a couple prospects). It wouldn't be a very exciting deal...but if a young player/blocked prospect isn't available, Peralta is far and away a better option than anyone on the free agent market.
You could use the same concept for an Indians deal involving Cabrera and Masterson, but they would be considerably more expensive and I don't think the Cubs have the pieces for that.
I was using Barney as an example due to this boards familiarity with him and his ascent as a SS switching to 2B for Castro...
I've brought up Barney to SS in trade scenarios before not because the Cubs are looking to deal him as much as other FO's are constantly looking for creative ways to fill situations... And around baseball, the shortage of MLB caliber SS is apparent... Barney as an everyday 2B is valuable, as an everyday SS? Two fold. Off the top of my head, Arizona, Oakland, both NY teams, Boston, Minnesota, Houston, Seattle, Milwaukee and about a handful of others need stability at SS both short term and/or long term (i.e. no projectable prospects within a three year window)...
Been told multiple times that this FO is too smart to not realize such and place Barney's trade value as such... Had three scouts tell me that Barney is still a better SS than 2B and all three believe his trade value is higher than any positional player on the team not name Castro or Rizzo...

What about trading for Mitch Moreland?
I mean if the Rangers make him available after maybe switching Kinsler/Young to 1b to let Profar get more AB's, then maybe trading for Moreland and slot him to 3b would be a good idea.
The Best Wrestler in the World.... Go Cubs!!!
Mitch Moreland is not a 3B. Kinsler for 3B could make sense.
I was thinking the same thing.
I wonder if the Mets would be willing to move Murphy? Murphy/Vitters platoon wouldnt be awful
some minor signings
The Cubs signed outfielder Brian Bogusevic to a minor league contract, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports (on Twitter). The Cubs also signed infielder Alberto Gonzalez, right fielder Johermyn Chavez and catcher J.C. Boscan, according to Eddy.
