Denver D might be playing like a top 5 D At the MOMENT, but they haven't been good for nearly as long as SF. I believe Bronco D will hold up and continue rolling, but there is a chance they take a step back whereas I don't see that happening with SF

they are both VERY good.
I would take Von Miller personally, this coming from a 49ers fan.
Aldon is a good kid, but he seems to be a bit immature and he got into trouble a few times.
Well, if we look specifically at the pass rush, the Broncos have 35 sacks, 13 by Von Miller.
The Niners have 23, 15 by Aldon Smith. The SF Pass rush literally consists of 2 guys: Justin Smith and Aldon Smith. He is accounting for an insane 65% of the Niners Sacks this year.
And before last year nobody thought the Niners D was elite. The biggest difference from our Good defense of 2 years ago to our Elite defense of last year and this year has been an actual pass rush.
Basically, I don't think people realize what Aldon has done for this defense.
Both are great players, SF fans are happy to have Aldon and Denver fans are happy with Miller. In that case it doesnt really matter
This. The combination of Aldon and Justin Smith as well as the emergence of Bowman has taken this team to a new height defensively. Aldon is responsible for the majority of the team's sacks this year and puts a ton of pressure on opposing OLs, he gets double teamed all of the time; there are usually 3-4 blockers working against Justin Smith and Aldon Smith in pass protection while Ray Mac and Brooks get single blockers. For example, on one of the sacks last night, the Center, LG, and LT all shifted to block Justin Smith and Aldon Smith, both players just bull rushed their way through and got the sack in about 2.5 seconds.
Aldon Smith has been a tremendous difference maker for the 49ers and his run defense is almost as good as his pass rush abilities. Only reason why he doesn't have as many tackles as Miller or Watt is because teams just don't run the ball much on the 49ers, and when they do, it's usually up the middle or to the right away from the Smith brothers.
Stat lines:
Aldon Smith: 43 tackles, 15 sacks, 3 FF
Von Miller: 45 tackles, 13 sacks, 4 FF
You can't go wrong with either but I would rather have Aldon Smith because he is a better pass rusher and also a great run defender. I don't care very much about his pass coverage though; on 3rd downs I want his hand in the dirt, ready to destroy OL men and quarterbacks, not dropping back into coverage.
"It was my fault, I shook your hand too hard."
Von- 663 total plays. 254 in run, 317 in pass rush, 92 in pass coverage
Aldon- 618 total plays. 250 run, 313 pass rush, 55 in pass coverage.
Aldon-19 QB hurries, 32 "stops" (in PFF's words an "offensive failure that includes sacks")
Von- 37 QB hurries, 37 "stops."
And if you don't like PFF's value of "stops." Advanced NFL stats..
Aldon- 13 TFL
Von- 23 TFL
Pretty decently even across the boards..except the fact that Von drops back into coverage much more often.
The one thing though that should be noted (and if it has already I apologize)...Von is a 3-4 OLB playing a 4-3 OLB. What if Von played his natural 3-4 OLB at all times?? Just something to think about.
I'm picking Von. Aldon is an excellent pass rusher but Von is an excellent football player. And even though Aldon has the edge over von in sacks, I'm not convinced he's the better pass rusher.
