This could also mean that the yankees could be sold soon. Hal is trying to get the payroll down by 2014, he's not as concerned about winning as his dad was. He just sold his stake in the YES network. I wouldnt be surprised if he sells the Yankees in a couple of years. Even if he doesnt this lowers the cash inflow so our days of spending big money are gone.

Doubtful. Hal is about making money 1st and winning 2nd. George didn't always make the best decisions but at least he wanted to win more than anything. I doubt it goes back into the team in terms of increasing payroll (or not cutting).

"Through their holding company, Yankee Global Enterprises, the Yankees own 34 percent of YES; another 40 percent is owned by Goldman Sachs and Providence Equity, and the remainder is held by some former owners of the Nets, who operate under an entity called Community Youth Organization."

Correct, but that's the investment stake. The Yankees own all of the controlling stake. Same with the ball club. Hal doesn't own it all, but controls it all.

I think Hal must be sencing that the team is going to be a bottom tier team in the next 5 years... So he's going to sell now while the price in through the roof... Smart for him bad for us Yankee fans if/when we become such a loser team...
