I said this in the game thread, Woody has adapted Mike D's philosophy of letting guys shoot when they are open or when they are 'feelin it', he has zero leash on these guys and its a way to keep them confident in their abilities. From JR, to Tyson, to Brewer, to Melo, these guys are free to shoot when they please if the shot is there.
I don't think Melo had that same freedom under GK, for better or for worse, and thats probably why you are seeing those shots now. GK is more of a no-nonsense, you better play mistake free or I will be a raging douchebag type of coach. Woodson lets them play through mistakes, for better or for worse.
I personally like the Mike D/Mike W philosophy, these guys are the best in the world for a reason, why put a leash on that?
@ Quietmoney--I love your optimism man! I remember that Bulls team vividly, their core players were together for quite some time and it didn't hurt that they had the greatest basketball player ever still in his prime during that season. I think most fans will be very content with over 50 wins this year. But the way we've started, I hope the guys on the team challenge themselves to try to win 55 this year and the Atlantic division.
I think that Bulls team were 33-2 to start the season or something ridiculous to that nature? Just ridiculous. I don't think anybody will touch that record for quite a while.
When Melo has drilled 2-3 straight shots and pulls up for an adrenaline 3, I don't mind that at all, but he does it sometimes when hes not even hot fire, sort of out of nowhere. Its gotta be 3-4 a game.
It is well documented that when LeBron went to Miami, he cut those shots out of his arsenal, and it did wonders for his efficiency.
6 years in CLE - Lebron averaged 4.3 3PA per game, and shot 47% overall.
3 years in MIA - Lebron averaged 2.9 3PA per game, and shoots 52% overall.
Melo cuts out 1.5 of those attempts per game, and his % goes up 4-5 points (to nearly 50%).
Thats the next step to true MVP level play.
Yep, in DEN Melo the most 3's Melo ever attempted was 2.7 per game. This year he's at 4.6, and over 4 per game since coming to NY. Thats a HUGE spike, I don't want a guy that shoots 32% from there taking nearly 5 per game.
If he takes away those 2-3 forces per game, he'd shoot a much higher % from 3, and overall.
He's REAL close to being a true top 5 MVP type player, he just needs to play a little smarter
Serious questions here -
-melo with SHEED and stat how would that work out in your mind against a team like the heat with bosh and lbj playing bigger/stronger guys and gives TC a break plus should have good O .
-small ball can be insane if we wanted melo and SHEED not even included we can use chandler or stat at the 5 and whoever at the 4. But jr , Iman , felton and Kidd. Playing 1-2-3-4. Vs a very small team while we're ahead could be fun to watch for a short while probably throw Novak in,,
But uhm who doesn't dress now and should we consider resting melo spec he's getting so beat up ..at any point I mean not just due to an injury that's obvious.
Should stat cut SHEED time ? We need SHEED for later
Camby and TC ? Once he's in shape do we play camby as the back up C to Tc or only sometimes ..since stat sometimes plays the C ?
I'm confused shouldn't we want a draft pick somehow but then again this teams old and deep we may need every1 and in a win now mode correct so then chemistry is a big deal right?
I Still See No Valid Reason why Amare Should be benched ..Dwade's game has more than dropped since Lebron went to south beach but only because they got that cHEATed championship last season ..all is well right ?...Amare Had an Injured LOCKOUT Season where he never got his back right because he couldnt work with the knick trainers & from injuring it in the playoffs in 2011 after he killed in game 1 vs boston (and we got cheated that game)... he didnt have that bad of a season... He got 20 & 10 with ONE Hand in that game 4 win .. He and Melo played well together before Tyson chandler got here & mostly when tyson chandler wasnt on the court with em or not playing .. so They can play together ... When Rasheed gets on the court with both of them the team will flourish on both ends of the floor ...Its all about How he fits in with Tyson Chandler... Amare had to gain more post moves for a reason and in that preseason game against toronto he looked pretty damn good ... Cant Wait Till he Get back to prove all these clowns wrong ..aww man
