mlbtrThe Cubs have signed catcher Dioner Navarro according to his representatives at MDR Sports Management (on Twitter). Terms of the deal are unknown.
Navarro, 28, hit .290/.306/.449 with two homers in 73 plate appearances for the Reds this year. He also hit .319/.382/.449 in 240 Triple-A plate appearances before being recalled. Cincinnati had some interest in re-signing Navarro, who did not crack Tim Dierkes' Top 50 Free Agents List.
Not a bad backup, I suppose. I still want to see Castillo get a real shot at being the starter.

Upgrade over Clevenger.
Hmm... Ok.
Clevenger have trade value?
This is a great signing. Switch hitting, defensive minded, and a solid bat to top it off. Perfect definition of a backup catcher and if Castillo faltars then he can easily slide in and be a solid regular. Much more efficient than overpaying for some one dimension chump like Martin.

It is anyway, not anyways.
Solid signing. This is the kind of signing this FO was brought in for.
Didn't think of him but that works. Only 29 next year (only 3? Years older than Castillo), experienced, good background (top Yankee prospect, started for the Rays in '08), has hit at times, and won't hurt you defensively.
Glad they got another catcher early. Did not buy that they want Castillo totally in charge of a rebuilding pitching staff for a second. Navarro has been a competent starter before, and I expect he'll see a good amount of innings behind the plate unless they get even deeper there this winter.
Better then Clevenger I guess, but he's only played 136 games the last 3 yeears
We were always going to sign some pointless veteran replacement-level catcher. I guess he's as good as any.
Better than Clevenger? Maybe, maybe not.
Happy happy joy joy
What's not to like he is a solid catcher and not that much money. I love the baker signing and this one I like more than dislike...LOTS better than Clevenger.
LETS GO CUBBIES...LETS GO DUKE!!!
