I also agree with the nickname thing. I miss the days of "Refuse to Lose", "Sodo Mojo", and "2 Outs So What"

If the Mariners don't at least get a Swisher or a Upton this Off-Season i am going to have to agree that the ownership really doesn't care.
When they get in negations for a new TV deal i am going to just love the conversation between Howard and Chuck about why they should give us a good deal considering we just have Felix as a proven player.
I really don't get why people want Upton. 14M a year for a player who's value mainly comes from defense and base running. While that's not bad, we need help on offense. I don't think his .330 wOBA and 110 wRC+ is enough of an upgrade over what we already have for that much money.

There's an incredible amount of untapped potential in Upton. His 2011 season was crazy and he's only 25.
And what do you mean his value mainly comes from defense and baserunning? In 2011 he hit .289/.355/.430 with 31 HRs and with a .385 wOBA and w139 RC+. He was the ultimate package that year.

“To the people in Seattle that trust me and believe in me, I’ll say this: I’m not going to disappoint anybody. I’m going to do my best. This Seattle Mariners team is going to be on top. Believe me…I will do my best, or more than my best, to get to the point of the playoffs. I’m not going to disappoint Howard and Chuck. I’ll tell you this: We are going to make the playoffs.” - Felix Hernandez
I was talking about BJ. My bad.
But Justin's splits are horrible and I'm not big on trading too much for him.

His road splits are .320 wOBA, 90 wRC+. That's 10 runs below average. Then factor in that his home park goes from a launching pad to a pitchers park, and he becomes a lot more average.
Even if he manages to hit .345/115 here, which I don't see much reasoning for, he is around .335/105. Not very good.
Unless you believe he will hit great here for some reason, or that hos road numbers will greatly improve, he isn't a good fit. If he puts up .320/90 at the average park, imagine what he will do at a pitchers park.
Don't get me wrong, I want to love Upton. But I just don't, at least not at the price it would take, which is probably Franklin and one of the big 3, probably Walker. I'd do Franklin and Paxton probably, but not Walker or Hultzen
With J Upton you've got to look beneath the numbers. He's a legit 5-tool talent with massive upside remaining. At his age you expect players to be just coming into their own in the big leagues while usually struggling through a lot of highs and lows. You also have to assume boosts in production as he enters his prime years (27). When his numbers improve, OMFG watch out.
