    Why is Kobe so good?

Nah but seriously I have been really impressed by him this year.
He has been flat out spectacular through 8 games.

His defense and turnover issues have lessened in the last few games and his passing and all-around game have came back to him.

Much as I may hate to admit it (I am Wade fan) he is looking like the best SG in the league right now.

I wonder how much longer he can maintain this level of play.

    Anyway props to Kobe.
    I always respect game.

Well as much as I think you're just as bad of a homer as any Laker fan I've ever met, it's definitely nice to hear that from you. Kobe has been playing very well this season, I hope he keeps it up all year long.

Primarily because he has accepted a lesser offensive role and is more focused on picking his spots and getting other people involved than being the go-to guy. Its something Kobe has always been capable of, just never as willing to show in more than just spurts.

Team USA was good practice for his efficiency (as usual), which is I think what you are referring to. Even though the team hasn't figured it all out yet, and Nash is out, Kobe still has a MUCH better team than he did the last year. It is easy to get more assists when the guys you pass it to actually make shots. He also has more confidence in this team than last years. There are a lot of other reasons, but mostly I think it may come down to his health. Even with his bruised foot, this may be the healthiest start he has had in a while. He has had finger issues on his shooting hand in years past, knee issues, many things that can affect a jumpshot. I think his jumper is looking as good as ever now because of his health.

The game Kobe is playing now has always been available to him. It's the game that Shaq and others wanted to see back in the day, because it was obvious Kobe could do it. But as with other aspects of Kobe's character and maturation, it took some time for Kobe to see it himself.

His game is lights-out right now because he seems to have decided to make everything as easy as possible, instead of as hard as possible. If he does this consistently no one will be able to stop him, because no one will be able to focus on him the way they used to.

It's no longer enough to run a double at Kobe or play him for the outside shot instead of giving him the drive, forcing him into a high-degree-of-difficulty shot. He doesn't seem to care about that any more, as the scoring at the end of last night's game attested. He trusted his team, and except for the last shot they delivered in ways no one would have predicted:

    Hill jumper.
    Metta jumper.
    Antawn 3.
    Gasol FT's (both made).
    Gasol Jumper.

If Kobe plays like that and trusts his team -- and trust me, you're not going to see another screw-up like last night the rest of the season -- then he can both at will and almost effortlessly.

Has anyone ever had a quieter 28 points? Particulalry when the Lakers only scored 82 total? It's there every night, and I'm ecstatic he seems to have realized that fact.

Kobe has never NOT been that, at least not since around Spring, 2000 and to anyone really watching while shedding their biases and hatred ...
