Where are Amar'e and Shumpert's minutes going to come from?
I'm just thinking about when Amar'e and Shump come back, and honestly I have no clue where their minutes are going to come from. Let's say between them Amar'e and Shump are worth 48 minutes, or 1/5th of the total court time. Where do we take those minutes? Tyson and Carmelo are obviously untouchable. In the backcourt, JR, Prigioni, Felton and Kidd are all already splitting the minutes amongst each other, and in the front court assuming Chandler and Melo's minutes don't change it'll be hard to create minutes for Amar'e even if you take them away from Rasheed, Novak, Camby and Kurt. So how do you think it's going to work?
Amare will have huge opening for minutes. None of our bigs are as good as amare and I think with these rotations we can really use amare. He is underrated around this forum now. He had no role in dantoni's offense once chandler came on board - which I think will happen to Pau gasol as well. Shump is better than brewer but I think prigoni's mins should be the one to decline - he has not looked great and I don't see us sticking with the 2 pg rotation once amare is back. We will use our size.
I don't think Amar'e jives with the 1's, but I don't see why he can't be your "go to guy" on offense with the 2nd team. I guess the problem is that both he and the organization might feel required to start him, but I just don't see how he fits in with the 1's.
As for Shump, he's gotta start, plain and simple. So I expect he'll take playing time from Prig, Brewer, Kidd, a few minutes (not much) from Novak and possibly some from J.R. Smith when Smith is cold (he's streaky).
Amare will get his minutes so will Shump. I can see Prigioni, Sheed and Kurt losing just about all of their PT when they both return. Personally I think Amare would fit best off of the bench where he doesn't have Melo or Chandler in his way on offense. He can literally be the first person off the bench and go to work. I would love to see JR, Novak, Amare and Camby work off the bench
