Your friend is an idiot who doesn't know shite about soccer. Donovan is the greatest USA player of all time. It didn't work when he went to Germany because he was to young and inexperienced. But he's the greatest player of all time in the MLS as well. Also when he went to England he proved he can hang with the best of them in Everton. The Bayern Munich thing he didn't get a fair shake of that either.

It's saying a lot. How is being the best of a LARGE nation not saying much? Not only in this era, but previous ones?

USA, China and India are a disgrace to the sport given their population

Let's not act like he was anything more than average at Everton. Best American international.

Well I'm not trying to troll or anything but, most of your top athletic talent goes to other sports, and given that soccer is not big in the U.S and is not given importance as other countries do, that leads to average players compared to top talent in the world.

....What? He was Everton's player of the month and had 7 assists in the 6-8 weeks he was there.

That made no sense. Of course it's saying a lot. The USA competes in the World Cup against the top nations in the world, do you know how many countries don't qualify for that?
