I am ok with this signing. The giants have the money. The payroll should expand in the next few years once they are off the hook for AT&T.

Would have liked to see Affeldt give us a more team friendly deal since we're committing to him long-term, but I don't mind an overpay if he stays productive. He would have been a big weapon lost if we couldn't retain him

I actually thought it'd take more to resign him, and would have been happy to let him walk if it did. This still seems like a bit of an overpay, but should work out fine if he remains consistent over the life of the contract.

Glad he is back! He has had a great 4-year run with the Giants, and even in his off year of 2010, he was clutch in the postseason. With the market for top relievers at the level it is, I am surprised that it did not take more. However, the contract seems appropriate, and hopefully a clause was included regarding frozen hamburgers and children

They definitely have the money but I was under the impression we will be paying off our stadium debt till 2018. Regardless, with the success we have had in the last 3 years, we have nothing to complain about.

Hmm... For some reason I though the Park was paid off in 2015, but everything I can find on the internet says end of 2017. This is definitely more than I'd be comfortable with for Affeldt. I was hoping he'd give a prone to freak accidents discount. Still I keep thinking he's 38, when he's really only 33. Guess I should be thankful it's only 3 years but was hoping they'd go with the 2 and an option again.

There needs to be two things written into the contract.

    1. He must have a baby every year
    2. If he has freak accidents he owes the team $1mil for each

Not exactly a hometown discount, but he could have got more out on the market. There were alot of teams interested in him. Glad he's back. I wonder if they'd consider trading Javy Lopez now. If they have confidence in Mijares (sp), then they could free up some cash.

So if Wilson comes back healthy I guess our bullpen is set? Romo, Wilson, Affeldt, Lopez, Casilla, Mijares, Kontos?
