I would imagine that the Cubs could contend for something POSSIBLY in 2014 if the Cubs have a few key player develop/breakout. I would look for a contending team starting in 2015 and would push it all the way back to 2016 if some of the younger players the Cubs are counting on don't pan out.

With the right moves, we could be "competitive" next year, but I wouldn't pencil us in any higher than 3rd (and that is a stretch). We just have too many holes to fill in one off season, and we don't want to sign a load of bad deals. 2014 will probably be the first year the we could possibly be considered "sleepers", depending on our moves the next couple of seasons, 2015 we will probably make some noise. I wouldn't plan on any late October trips to Wrigley until 2015 or later though...

Agreed with the post directly above but I feel obligated to state some ridiculous year like 2088 (my 100th year).

The Plan calls for prospects to form a Core/Foundation so that they can then go out and sign the awaiting Finishing Piece. This makes success more Sustainable. Whenever that is is the year I expect to see some winning baseball.

I've always figured that 2014 would be the year that they get to .500ish and 2015 is the year they're considered legit contenders.

A lot depends on this offseason. If they don't do some real hole-filling, then 2014 is going to be that much more difficult and we're looking at 2015 at the earliest.

Seriously though the way this team is constructed it's not going to win a WS in 4 seasons. They have to win this off season if they want to start thinking about winning in 2014-2016.

So while Miami isn't in the AL, Back to the Future was correct in both predicting a Florida franchise and it's name (change). The gentleman said that it was 100:1 odds, which it very well could be close to for the 2015 season.

It may seem corny, but this trilogy was my favorite as a kid. I saved up my allowance for our family vacation to Florida and spent nearly all of it in the Back to the Future store at Universal Studies. I told my friends from grade school through high school that one day I would own a DeLorean, and I plan to buy one in the very near future. Still to this day, I can flawlessly quote any of the three films. My life has always had what I believe to be an unusual amount of synchronicity. For that reason, I'm putting quite a bit of money on the Cubs in 2015.
