Glad I snagged him in one of my $$$ leagues. Dude is straight beast mode right now. He might be playing like a top 5 SG right now (not saying I expect that all season, but the potential is there).
Why can't he do it all season? Maybe Woodson is the first coach to really get to him.. This kid had ridiculous upside his whole life but he's fuggin nuts.

Agreed. Its all in his head. The talent is there, hes a freak athlete who can shoot the **** out of the ball, talented passer, gets a shot off anytime he wants, and plays his *** off on D.

If Woody can harness his game he could conceivably be a top 5 PG in this league, at least for a breakout season and than you build on that.

I think the reason we got on our knees and signed his scrub bro was so he would pick up his option so we had his bird rights and could sign him long term.

I think JR is a Knick for the long haul, and being that he is 26 I like that.

Jason Terry was a chucker until he became a winner.

JR has a player option, no way if he is even close to 6th man of the year he settles for that pay.

Knicks will have some choices to make with the MLE next yr thats for sure.

Wait so we can't sign JR long term for whatever salary we negotiate?

Why did I think this whole time thats why it was so important for him to resign this year?

The new CBA, however, created two midlevel exceptions. For non-luxury-tax-paying teams using the midlevel exception, a player’s base salary is maxed out at $5 million in 2012-13 and allows for only 4.5 percent increases over four years. On top of being a smaller contract for the player, it also carries with it a powerful sting for the team using it, which might be an all-out deterrent: implementation of a $74.3 million hard salary cap for the season.

A smaller midlevel exception, referred to as the mini midlevel exception, is available for luxury-tax-paying teams that are “above the apron,” meaning they’re $4 million over the tax level. The mini midlevel allows for a base salary of $3 million and a three-year limit. No hard cap is implemented in this case, but new luxury tax rules featuring escalating penalties will provide a deterrent for some teams.
That was the best I could find.

The salary cap is set at $58.044 million, and the luxury tax line is $70.307 million.
Our CAP at this moment is $80,474,660

So based on that wouldn't we only be able to offer JR a Mini-MLE?
I don't believe last season gave us bird rights for JR so wouldn't he have to play this season and accept his option next season to qualify for LLE

    Early Bird exception
This is the lesser form of the Larry Bird Exception. Free agents who qualify for this exception are called "early qualifying veteran free agents," and qualify after playing two seasons with the same team. Players that are traded or claimed off waivers have their Bird rights transferred to their new team. Prior to an arbitrator ruling in June 2012, all players that were waived and changed teams lost their Bird rights.[14][15] Using this exception, a team can re-sign its own free agent for either 175% of his salary the previous season, or the NBA's average salary, whichever is greater. Early Bird contracts must be for at least two seasons, but can last no longer than four seasons.
I need to find out if last season counts as 1 yr of service for JR/Knicks.
If it does after this season he would have 2 seasons of service to us so would qualify for a EBE.

Still a fan will have to confirm this, been a while since I had to worry about this.

    I think we'll have his EBR's.

So we'd be able to give him a raise to the MLE without actually using our MLE.

We might have to use our MMLE on Brewer though

Big contracts are given to win basketball games. The contracts mean nothing as long as we win and win a championship.

Honestly, I think JR plans on sticking around. If we can offer him anything decent, he stays. Sure he could have done better than what he took to stay. Appears he loves it here, and loves playing for Woodson.

Of course 3M isn't going to be enough, so hoping people are right that we can up the offer with EBE

While I agree he wants to stay, all it takes is one team to throw Al Harrington type DEN contract at him and I think he walks....

Someone might throw 40 mill his way if he keeps this up.

Can't deny that, never can. But I have to believe he already turned down a better deal, both in salary and/or years. Someone HAD to be willing to give him more than the slightly less than 3M per for 2, looking at all the ridiculous deals guys got.

Gonna keep on hoping I'm right, as I really like what he brings. Game-breaking ability, and you know he comes to play. Become one of my favorite Knicks from any of the recent teams, flaws and all..
