That's exactly the problem, though. If people stopped treating 3rd parties like they're a wasted vote and actually voted FOR who they wanted, rather than AGAINST someone, those candidates might actually have a chance. Instead, people say they "prefer" someone but then vote for someone they don't prefer.Originally Posted by SenecaValley46

Knowing that Johnson was unlikely to make a dent in the election, should I have voted for Romney and been satisfied that we would have at least had a problem-solver in office? Some would argue 'yes', but then I'm just feeding into the two-party system that has kept our political process so broken.
(And you really thought Obama is better than Romney? Le sigh.)
As a Libertarian at heart, I'm saddened that 3rd partiers get dismissed so easily. That said, the only way to ever get 3rd partiers elected into office is to have those 3rd party people fundamentally change one of the primary parties (Republican or Democrat.) The simple fact of the matter is we'll always be a 2 party system and the only way to elect 3rd parties is for those 3rd parties to run under a primary party long enough and strong enough to fundamentally change the ideals of the primary party.
Given how Libertarians and Republicans are much closer together than Democrats and Libertarians are, I can only hope that over time the Republican party embrace some of the social beliefs that Libertarians hold. If that day ever comes, watch out Democrats, the Republican party would be a lot stronger than it already is.
The sickening thing that makes this a reality is that our politicians control our electoral process. Why would they change a process that put them in power to allow other parties to steal votes from them? Naturally, they wouldn't. It's really a major conflict of interests and it steals the voices of a significant part of the American population whose values don't align with either of the two main parties.

I'm American, why the **** do I need to know Roman Numerals?

The Super Bowl is American, yet uses Roman Numerals. For shame.
