I don't think he should. But I do think he will. On this roster, I think he is the 2nd best option to start at PF next to Bynum behind Lavoy. But Thad's the vet, and he's put in the work. So I'm sure Collins will give him the starting spot.

Bynum is the one who is more important to keep close to the rim....so hopefully Thad keeps that catch and shoot jumper consistent when he becomes the forgotten man in the half court offense.

Didn't get a chance to watch but was checking the score on my phone throughout. Looks like there was room for improvement in some areas, but a convincing win nonetheless.

Also doubled down on my bet from the Hornets game and won. I'm loving the lines for these Sixers games lately. Hopefully the trend continues against the bad teams coming up on our schedule.

Now that Thad is bigger and Hawes is smaller, yes they all can work.

However, deep in the post season in the starting lineup I do think Lavoy is the safest bet. That being the case, why wait till then to start him? Might as well get guys in their roles early.

I'll be surprised if it's anyone other than Thad, the way Collins' mind works. If it makes him more tradeable, I'm all for it. Really, it should be Brand.....oh wait, we amnestied him so we could sign NYoung and Kwame. WTF.

From the very limited minutes he has played, I can tell he's going to be just as disappointing as I expected. There is more to defense than being big and strong.

The low cost pickups I am loving on the defensive end are Ivey and Wilkins. I hope both of them stay in the rotation, and I pray Wilkins discovers a catch and shoot shot from the corner 3.

Im inclined to agree that amnestying beand made zero sense....

But at the same time, brand didnt do us any favors in the postseason last year, so forgive me for not seeing a huge drop iff if we play more lavoy allen.... And im sorry, but hawes has been impressing me enough defensively that a twin towers could be effective if we have wright in at the 3 cause he can defend 4s on switches and cover hawes lack of speed.... And MAYBE thad can too???

I agree that lavoy should start.... I think at some point there may not be enough minutes, unless thad gets more time at the 3, and lavoy and hawes split time at the 4 and 5 when bynum sits.... And obviously we never see kwame....

Brand's post season performance is underrated. We don't defeat Chicago without his defensive rotations and quick hands. We don't hold Boston to low scores without him due to his screen defense with Rondo. He had some issues defending KG. And he's mostly just a garbage bucket offensive player at this point. But he's more valuable than NYoung + Kwame combined if the goal is to contend. Being able to go 3 deep with our role playing Bigs (I don't count Thad for the deep post season as a Big) would make Bynum and our team more dangerous. If Elton's role is role playing defensive specialist, he's a huge benefit to any team in the league poised for a post season run. His acquisition is already paying dividends in Dallas. You just couldn't tell from the box score. They are letting him do some things defensively that the Sixers rarely would try.

Brand even at this ripe old age is both faster and quicker than Allen will ever be and can defend both screens and the perimeter better than Allen ever will. Allen is better in the low post defensively against some back to the basket players compared to Brand (not in all matchups). They are both very usefull post season role playing Bigs. We'd be much better off with both of them depending on the series matchup. They are not the same player.

i didnt say they were the same player.

i know the defensive effiiency numbers LOVE brand... but he just didnt pass the eye test (for me) .... especially in the playoffs.

The efficiency and post defense numbers were definitely skewed. While Brand is a solid low post defender, those stats aren't as reliable as some people think. I am talking about the eye test. His overall activity level defensively cannot be matched by Lavoy outside the low post.

your eye is different from mine.... i see longer and more athletic bigs (especially those who can consitently hit a shot outside 15 feet) completely own elton brand.... and thats a problem in the playoffs.....

If you can watch the Bobcats/Dallas game from I think it was last night, you will see what I mean. Check out the 4th quarter and overtime. He was defending out to the 3 point line on screens and disrupted the Bobcats offense several times. There is no other big on our roster that could do that.

The bobcats dont have a big who will cause problems for brand.

Its against bigs like bosh, kg, aldridge, nene, etc..... He gets bullied.
