    He's Coming Back!

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...tnerId=rss_nym

That's right! Mike Nickeas is coming back to Queens!

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Less than a week after the Mets outrighted catcher Mike Nickeas to Triple-A Las Vegas and Nickeas subsequently elected free agency, the Mets brought him back on a Minor League deal.

Nickeas, 29, will report to big league camp in February, giving the Mets a measure of catching flexibility as they continue to seek a more offensive-minded complement for starter Josh Thole.

Breaking camp with the Mets last spring, Nickeas struggled at the plate, hitting .174 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 47 games. The Mets eventually demoted him to Triple-A Buffalo, where he hit .364 with one homer and six RBIs in 22 games.

The Mets do value Nickeas' receiving and game-calling abilities, as well as his history with starting pitcher Matt Harvey -- the two trained together in the Atlanta area last offseason. And if the Mets retain knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, Nickeas is yet another backstop capable of catching him.

But the club is also in desperate need of offense behind the plate. With Thole likely to return after negotiating a new deal through arbitration, the Mets would like to find a right-handed-hitting catcher to pair with him, perhaps in a platoon situation.

Thole, a lefty, hit just .211 against left-handed pitchers last season, with a .259 on-base percentage

He's not coming back to Queens, he's on a minor league deal and will probably stay there all season baring a rash of injuries.

He's like a bad piece of veal that keeps repeating on you.
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

Nickeas will probably hit .360 in Las Vegas, which will result in numerous fans clamoring to see him back in Queens, where he would still straddle the Mendoza line.

Doubt it because he hit .364/.405/.500 in Buffalo this past year.

So he'll hit .400/.500/.600 in Vegas.

Sounds good. He'll become the new Papa Valentino.

This is just the beginning. Let's keep it up. History is bound to repeat itself. Let's hope that this time it's for the best.

He's fine, he gives us a measure of safety in advent all other catchers go down. Pitchers love him.

I don't understand this fascination with Nickeas aside from FOC's tag of an APH.

He obviously can't hit and never will, his defense sucked last year, and its just tiring to see him around.

I know its a minor league deal but they could find FA minor league catching depth anywhere

    Oh No!

I was so happy when Nickeas opted for free agency. I thought that we were rid of him. I hope that he stays at Las Vegas all year long or goes to another organization.
