Or they could compromise on the 98% of tax rates they agree on. There is no disagreement on all but the top rate. But giving up that bargaining chip would be bad.

He's def going to need to compromise himself to get something done. This isn't to make an excuse for the republicans because he won the presidency, but that doesn't mean he just gets to make the laws. The republicans won the house and the right to not vote for what he wants. That's what gets lost when some think the republicans and only the republicans need to compromise saying Obama won.

someone can't remember who on my twitter who said probably some middle ground there. Republicans will say tax cuts for everyone making under a million Obama now has gone on record at the 250k, probably see something like tax cuts for those under 500k. Which helps out those in California and NY where 250k isn't near as much as other parts of the country

Yeah, but a big part of the president's campaign in 08 and now was keeping taxes low for people under $250k and allowing increases over it. So Congress not going for it is kinda against what the people wanted with that president.

And $250k may not go as far here in CA as in Boise, but if you're making $250k....you're doing jusssst fine.

I don't support Obama, and I'm all about the notion that both sides will need to compromise to get things done....however, Obama has already conceded to Republicans twice on the tax cuts.

We can have another 4 years of record obstruction, or Republicans and Democrats both can make concessions for the overall good. It will be interesting to see what the minority party's stance will change, even slightly.

I don't see where both sides are making concessions. Closing loopholes is not a concession to Democrats. Not raising taxes on people making more than 250k is a concession to Republicans.

If the Republicans idea of concessions are anything that might increase tax receipts than we have a warped as hell definition of what concessions are.

It's pointless. Any spending cuts will be IMMEDIATELY replaced.
