Special edition of Copa América in 2016 to be held in the US

    http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/1...ca-in-america/

In July 2016, Conmebol will complete its first century of life. In order to commemorate this with the pomp it deserves, the association presidents and members of the executive committee have decided to have a tournament of teams across America. This competition, which will be called the Centennial Copa America, will take place in the United States and will bring together 16 teams: the 10 South American, plus 6 from Concacaf, including Mexico and the United States and the four top-placed from the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Also, Japan and Mexico officially confirmed as invitees for the Copa América 2015.

Too bad it's just a one time thing. Having a single competition in America would help both sides, helps develop CONCACAF teams and makes it more interesting with Mexico and the USA in there.

it should be for the whole continent... it's a joke to have the USA, Mexico and a crappy Central American team in the World Cup every year. Sort out coefficients for the whole continent. It's a shame to miss out on one or two of Colombia-Chile-Paraguay-Peru from the World Cup and have crappier teams in.

3 for Asia/Oceania is brutal but it'd be for the best (level of competition). We all know it's about the money though.

    The logical would be.

    14+1* europe
10+1* America ( all of it, north and south)
    3+1* Africa
    2+1* Asia + Oceania

    * the +1 teams would be three groups of 4 teams 1 from each conference the 3 winners make it to the WC.

Anyway if they wanted to make Copa america really interesting they should Invite England, France, Spain and Portugal.

    Why?

    Colonial reasons.
