If Boston signed Gomes does that mean they are giving up on trying to resign Cody Ross? Or is there room in their outfield for him and Gomes. I know they were having a tough time signing him. Ross had an OPS of 1.010 vs lefties and .807 overall. Just a thought.

What? Kimbrel just posted an ERA of 1.01, with an xFIP of 0.88 and a SIERA of 0.68. He also posted a 3.6 WAR (highest league-wide among relievers) and had the highest K%/K-per-9 ever recorded. All of this while playing in the MLB. Fujikawa posted an ERA of 1.32, with a K/9 of 5.5 less than that of Kimbrel's. Not to mention that Kimbrel is 24, whereas Fujikawa is 32.

Yeah Gomes looks to be signing with Boston. Big deal...

I would have liked him here but it's nothing major. I say go after Adam Laroche to be the DH/1B.

On MLBTR today they were saying that Boston needs a lot of help in the OF and are unlikely to stop at just Gomes. So Ross could still be in play for them, and I think he'd cost too much for us to simply use him as a platoon guy.

I'm worried that Laroche outplayed his abilities in a contract year. I'd definitely rather have him than Lind but I think he's going to cost too much and end up disappointing people.

I really hope they start Gomes and Ross in the corners. Just give up against RHP lol.

I heard that Boston was going to be a big player for Hamilton. It was just speculation, but it makes sense for them. If they do that then there is no room for Gomes and Ross. I'd gladly take Ross off their hands. Even if you make him a fulltime DH, he is a step and a half up from Lind.

I actually really like the idea of platooning them.

Ross is, career wise, just as good against lefties as Gomes.

#BlueJays sign SS Cesar Izturis to minor league deal; they signed half-brother Maicer to big league deal this month.
The only interesting part of this is that he's related to Maicer. Had no idea.

When Jays announced the trade for Izturiz, I went to see what the guy was about and clicked on Cesar. Said to myself, this doesn't sound like the right guy, now I can say I looked at both.....

Cesar was signed by the Jays back in the mid 90's. I remember he was suppose to be the next big shortstop for them and I know he was ranked in the top 100 prospect list in 1999 I think. He played one year here and was traded the next season lol. Was a nothing, which is why I have no problems trading prospects like we did to get guaranteed good MLB players.

except Ross is the much better hitter overall and as a result will command a bigger contract. Last I read he was seeking 3 years and I assume it would surpass 20 mills.. too much for a platoon player

Gomes made sense because he was cheap and would have been happy with a platoon i'm assuming

    props to vick27m
