I think Upton is over rated ...

He's definately a good player, and has loads of potential ... but at this point i definately think people over rate him

Please now sign Gomes for cheap and platoon him with Lind at DH. Even an awful Lind in 2012 was good for a .801 OPS against RHP. Gomes posted a OPS over .900 against LHP.

Gomes would be an amazing fit for the Jays right now and is only looking for a 2-year deal. Where we are right now on the win curve, im OK with overpaying slightly for a bench player.

Ideally I'd love to see the jays get Hafner too to replace Lind as the Left Handed part of the platoon. IF he stays healthy, and thats a big if, him and Gomes would be an amazing DH platoon for $6-7 million tops. Send Lind down to the minors if no one claims him and bring him up if/when Hafner gets injured.

I'd like to pick up Hafner but really, he only posted an OPS just over .800 last season vs RHP which is basically what Lind gives you. I think Hafner would be lateral. What really pops up as a red flag is how he hit against the AL East last year.

    Baltimore-.397 OPS
    Boston-.567
    Tampa-.561
    Toronto-.687

you prefer "i hope we get morneau?"
Beeston: "we should be able to support a $140-$150 million payroll and that's the direction that we're headed."

Off topic, but we could have a cool name for our lineup if they put Bonifacio in the 2 hole just like we did in the WAMCO days. With Reyes, Emilio, Bautista, Encarnacion and Lawrie or Lind we could have REBEL.
I'm sure it won't happen, but just having some fun.

You know Emilio is his first name right? It would be more like RBBEL.

Hey, if you want to deal with Zona..... I would rather put a deal together for Bauer than Upton.

As I see it there are only two positions left to upgrade - DH and a starter to let Happ be the sixth man waiting in Buffalo.

For the DH I'm OK with Lind hitting RHP (career wOBA 0.360), get a platoon partner to hit LHP. The best solution that I've seen is Jonny Gomes (career wOBA 0.385) the resultant "player" would hit a wOBA around 0.365. This is pretty damn good, in the top 30 for any player in mlb last season.

How about signing Roy Oswalt as the number 5? Horrible ERA in 2012 but the underlying numbers tell a different tale - ERA of 5.8, FIP 4.2, xFIP 3.3. Bill James projects him to throw 136 innings at 3.6 ERA. HE'd be available on a short-term contract and may even want to sign here now that we have the cache of star players and look like contenders.
    2012-2013 Offseason Shopping List

    1. Starting Pitcher - Josh Johnson
    2. Second Baseman - Maicer Izturis
    3. Left Fielder - Melky Cabrera
    4. Starting Pitcher - Mark Buehrle
    5. Designated Hitter
    6. Backup Infielder - Emilio Bonifacio
    7. Replace Alvarez - R.A. Dickey (!)
