Know who else used exaggeration? Anibal's agent. He's not getting 90M.

Absolutely agree - though I suspect he will have very little trouble getting 5 year/60 mil deal (or there abouts).

Knowing how desperate Mike Ilitch is to win at least one more world series I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit goes a bit crazy this year and overpay -- if there is a team this year who'll be the overbidders, its going to be Detroit.

if detroit is going to make an over payment for a pitcher it should be greinke.a 123 of verlander greinke and scherzer would be filthy.

If Zack Grienke gets 25M/yr, then Anibal Sanchez is going to get a lot more then 12M/yr.

Stop looking at his record....Sanchez pitched well enough to win all 3 of his playoff starts, and could have very easily had a record of 8-3 for Detroit in the regular season. Going though his game logs, he could have won 21 games in 2012, 19 in 2011, and 20 in 2010.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if someone locked him up for something between 80-90M over 5 years.

The way the Tigers are spending, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to lock up Sanchez AND go after Grienke to give them a rotation of:

    Verlander
    Greinke
    Scherzer
    Sanchez
    Fister

Wow new thread, cool, see we are now off Upton. Would be a good fit out there, but see him in Texas and would prefer a LH bat in LF, just cause we need them.
Sanchez not worth the asking even if the market is light. But some team will come out of the wood work and pay him, just like the Tigers swooped in and grabbed Fielder. \

I'd go 5/70, which is probably still a little over payment by a mill or so a year, but maybe worth it.

I doubt Greinke goes to Detroit, but if I was him I would consider it since that team is loaded long-term! Verlander, Greinke, Fister, Schwzer, Sanchez would be the best rotation. Detroit also needs a lights out closer and maybe another bat in the lineup and this team will the new New York Yankees for the next five years.

Given he's the second best FA pitcher in this years market I have no doubt his salary will be pretty high.... I still can't see him getting 90 million though - but maybe something close to what CJ Wilson received last offseason.

If I were the Jays, that's the absolute max value I'd be willing to go - and even then will probably be far too rich for AA's tastes.

Yep - think the trade route is the best route this year (which is much easier said than done).

    LOLOL

I don't disagree that he didn't pitch well in the playoffs, he did, but one decent playoff performance and he thinks he deserves 90 mill? No.

He has a career losing record and a 3.75 era which is average. He hasn't had one year where his stats catch my eye as impressive. He's an innings eater, he pitches good to contact, he's an alright pitcher as a #3 guy.

I say the Jays look elsewhere unless he drops his price. Sure Greinke will get 25 mil he's also won a CY Young and has a much better strike out ratio, win loss record.

Trade route is the best route and it's what I firmly believe AA is gonna do.
