Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York hears that the Rangers, Mariners, Pirates and Red Sox are interested in Russell Martin.

The Pirates are the only new team on the list, as the others have been reported by various outlets as pursuing the 29-year-old backstop. The Yankees would also like to retain Martin. Though he's coming off a year where he batted just .211/.311/.403, it's clear that Martin is in high demand.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Red Sox are doing "extensive background work" on Mike Napoli.

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reported Sunday that Napoli doesn't want to move off of catcher, which would seem to make him not a great fit for the Red Sox given that they already have Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Ryan Lavarnway and David Ross. But, Olney seems to believe there's still room for him in Boston as a guy that splits time between catcher, first base and DH. The Sox could relieve the logjam a bit by trading Salalamacchia.
