McCulloughSL Terry Collins: "I was as surprised as anyone." Mets had intended to use Bay as platoon guy in 2013, until buyout took shape.

I guess the Mets can keep a secret, even the beat reporters were blindsided.

    Smart move

I believe this was SA's doing. I think he realizes he has a legitimate chance at getting Cody Ross, and he offered Bay the trade-off of salary deferral for freedom, time will tell, but if that's the case, that would be a smart move.

Yeah Sandy is smart enough to know how disgusted Met fans were with Jason Bay. They couldn't go into another season with him as a distraction.

It's good he is cleaning house of guys from the Minaya Era like Castillo, Perez, and Bay. They aren't part of the Met's future and they really didn't belong on the team anymore.

    Thank goodness.

It's too bad Bay just fell apart. He's done as a productive player.

It was a no-brainer move. Now, let's see what SA can do to make this roster respectable.

The funny thing is all these posters in the MLB forum talking about him going here and there.

There's reports about him possibly going back to Boston already.

Good luck to any team that signs him!!

It had to be done. Did not even come close to our expectations as a Met. He's was miserable during his tenure with us and I'm glad its over!
