Some interesting names appear on this list. Some will opt for retirement, others will ask for too much money.
    Thoughts?

I have always loved James Loneys swing.. He is someone who I think we could buy low on and be able to get some production out of IF and only IF Morneau is gone.. Mauer, Daumit will platoon behind the plate, while those two and Loney would play 1st or DH.. I don't really see him happening.. but I like the upside he brings.. As for pitching Joe Saunders,Jake Peavy, Gavin Floyd and James Shields are ones I would give more then a 2 year deal too... I love the idea of 3 year deals with a 4th and 5th year option for a isht ton of money!! RP we could use some help.. Mark Lowe and Sean Burnett would be nice additions

James Loney-- 1 year 3.3 mill

James Shields-- 3 years 40 mill (no way we do this)
Joe Saunders -- 2 years 11mill club option for 9
Gavin Floyd -- 2 years 16mill club option for 10
Jake Peavy-- 4 years 50 mill club option at 15 (never going to happen)

Mark Lowe-- 2 years 2.7 mill mutual option for 3
Sean Burnett-- 3 years 7.5 mill club option for 5 (never going to happen)

I don't think our bullpen will be weak, but we don't really have a strength right now and I feel like if we make our bullpen a strength some of the young guys will be able to come up and not put added pressure on them selves to pitch 7-9 inning games.. Give us 6 good innings then 3 from the pen.. LIGHTS OUT!!

I say we sign Hinske just because it seems like every team he plays for goes to the World Series haha jk

I do see some names in that SP list that I feel would help us tremendously

I would have absolutely no problem trading Span for a pitcher / young arms and signing Tori Hunter for the immediate future until Hicks is ready to go 1 year from now. Move Revere to center, Willingham stays in left, and Hunter moves to RF and we are set for now.

It just depends if Tori would come back to MN since we are most likely not a contender.

Honestly, I could see Arcia being a better trade chip than Span right now. He's nearly ready for prime-time and should net a really good prospect or 2. He's controllable for much longer than Span and is a lot cheaper now, too.

How good can Arcia really be? Does he have the talent to be not only up at the major league level, but a legitimate factor and difference maker? Where do we see him in the next year, 2 years from now, 5 years from now? Is he a franchise pillar type player for us? Does he have more value around the league then Hicks?

If we are going to trade Span, what teams would be most interesting and willing to cough up a good pitcher in return (spec, or established)...I would think the Reds, Braves (depending on Bourne), Rays (depending on Upton) and maybe the Blue Jays would be the teams with enough pitching depth to get a nice deal done.

I really think Arcia is ready for big league pitching. Not sure he's a "difference-maker", but he should be a solid major league outfielder, both offensively and defensively. Hicks has a higher ceiling than he has, as does Buxton (hard to say this early in his career though).

My wish would be to sign 4 FA pitchers as our staff is horrible but realistically i like the loney idea and wishful thinking we go after one edwin jackson or greinke both still pretty young and could help but will most likely cost too much

I just wish our prospects could pan out! Giants showed drafting good pitchers will win you ships. Drafted Cain, Lincecum and Bumgarner all in the 1st rd.
