Baggs, thoughts on UGA LB Alec Ogletree?
Obviously we'd need to trade up in the first to get him, but he is great in coverage and is fast. May end up projecting as a S, which wouldn't be terrible either

I've changed my mind, Ogletree is my #1 guy on the board for me

i think ogletree goes in the top 20 and see no reason the pats move up for him,i am thinking their draft won't really be a for need one but will target the best players available when their picks come up.there are likely to be some OL picks to look at in the bottom of the first round.

I'd like him to but other areas of need exist.

RT - most likely draft (Vollmer is almost for sure gone), most likely one of our top 2 picks
WR - FA when Welker is gone, no big draft pick used on WR - too risky
WR - back-up slot to Edelman? late draft pick, UDFA, or minimal FA
WR - no Welker and no Edelman? Need two slots, neither high in the draft
DT - thin behind Wilfork and Love, if drafted top 2 choices
SS - Chung is gone, we need a hitter that can cover - probably FA or mid round pick
CB - If Talib stays, we'll draft or sign odds and ends sorts of guys; leave? medium buck FA
LB - need a coverage LB that can hold the edge - tough to find

Jesse Williams is planning on break the bench press record at the combine
The record is currently 51 bench press reps of 225 pounds
This was impressive.... It'd be nice to get him next to Big Vince
The current record of 51 was set by Justin Ernest of Eastern Kentucky in 1999. Williams, a native of Brisbane, Australia, believes he will break that mark, and has even maxed out at 600 pounds on the bench to prove his unrivaled strength.
The NFL is about on-field production, not what players can do in the weight room. Although, the NFL combine is used to gauge the speed, strength and agility of future prospects, so it’s no wonder that one big-time prospect is aiming to break the combine’s longstanding bench press record this year. Alabama defensive lineman Jesse Williams, who projects as a first- or second-round pick in this year’s draft, plans to break the draft combine record of 51 bench press reps of 225 pounds at this year’s event, according to an interview he did with The Courier-Mail. The current record of 51 was set by Justin Ernest of Eastern Kentucky in 1999. Williams, a native of Brisbane, Australia, believes he will break that mark, and has even maxed out at 600 pounds on the bench to prove his unrivaled strength. Putting that strength in context, Williams’ 600-pound max is 100 pounds more than that of 2012 combine bench champion Dontari Poe, who completed 44 bench press reps at the combine. Williams isn’t the first player to claim his stake at the bench press throne, and likely won’t be the last. Michigan center David Molk claimed he would break the record just last year, but he came up 10 short and finished with just 41 reps on the bench. Williams, at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, is a versatile lineman who played both inside and outside on the defensive line, as well as a little fullback during his career with the Crimson Tide. His size and skills alone project him as a high-round pick. While setting the record won’t guarantee him a place in the first round, showing off that much strength can’t hurt his case.

Vollmer stays either through tag or long term deal. Welker goes and Edellman re-signs. Use our 1st 2 or 3 picks on D and draft wr's late.

Tagging a tackle is what? $10.7M for one year - for a RT? That's a lot. Vollmer is going to be turned into a LT by some team that will well outbid us.

I agree that this is a very likely outcome. The Pats will be hesitant to match any deal due to his injury history, but a desperate team like Arizona may set the market value insanely high.

I would rather tag Vollmer at that price than sign him long term due to his injury history. As slow as Brady is and as scared he is to get hit I would recomend we keep him. Brady is reacting to ghosts in the pocket as it is, I can't imagine what he would be like with a turnstile at RT.

One other option - tag and trade. They might be able to get a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Look at some of the goons they've turned into good linemen over the past few years. Tackles are different than T/C being in more demand - and needing to be taller, but I think with the 2nd pick we could still snag a good T and have this guy or Cannon start.

I'm also worried about Mankins, I don't think he has much time left. But that's about two drafts off.

I don't like Cannon as the starting RT. He's looked very very uncomfortable out there. As opposed to at Guard where he's looked like an absolute beast. I'm still holding out hope that Vollmer values the Pats believing in him and using a 2nd round pick on him factoring in his decision to possible give a hometown discount. I'm not talking huge money but if we are off 1 or 2 mil a year, I'm hoping he takes our offer. I'm a huge fan of Vollmer and when he's healthy he's one of the best RT's in football.

I've mentioned a bunch of times I don't like Cannon at T, but, if Vollmer leaves, Cannon is at least the chief back-up if not more.

Vollmer might be susceptible to home town feelings, but his agent is well known for not being that way at all.

He's easily top 3 in the NFL at RT, his health being his only concern to go with the money it will cost to keep him.

There are several teams that need LT's, and he could easily get $9M a year for 5 years from one of those teams.

What's a really good RT get? $8M tops, and one with a bad back, what's he get from the Pats? $7 x 5? Perhaps a $10M difference over 5 years - probably 1/2 guaranteed if not more. That's a lot of hay to give up for a home town discount.

I don't want him to leave, but wishful thinking isn't going to make him stay either.

Matt Elam has been thrown out by many on here and while I think we have bigger needs than SS, we can certainly stand to improve there and I really like him as an overall player and also as a compliment to what we have at safety already.

Gregory is a smart player, but he doesn't have much physical skill. Rarely did I see him out of place, but he also isn't capable of making many plays. In a capped league you can't realistically expect to be perfect at every position though and if we had to I think we could manage with him at SS if we made other improvements on D, especially if Tavon Wilson makes a leap in year 2. I worry about him as a starting safety though. He seemed much better off early in the year when we were using him as a near the line player in sub packages. When he was forced to play as a starting deep safety, I thought he really struggled. Some of that is probably experience, but skill set is partially responsible too IMO. I think long term he probably projects better as a third safety than a starter.
