If defense wins championships, why aren't a lot of the top defenders getting top

    salaries?

Guys such as Tony Allen, Ronnie Brewer, Shane Battier are premier defenders, but are making much less than superstars who aren't all-team defenders. None of them are great offense players, but they don't bring the team down with their offense either, sometimes bringing it on that end.

Also as much as people talk about defense wins championships, a lot of people seem to feel they shouldn't be getting paid that much without the offense.

Because good offense beats good defense most nights. The game is about putting the ball in the basket first and foremost. You have to score points to win games, etc etc

because 1.defense is about effort, schemes and whats asked of you,if you put any of those players on a run and gun team with a coach who doesnt emphasis defense than you'd never say allen, brewer, ect were good defensive players and you can turn any player thats willing to buy in and do the work into a decent or above defender
    2.its a saying,not a rule
3.as was said.offense wins most night, the point of the game is to have the most points at the end of the night ,and since there's no way to stop a good scorer it makes having them a premium

It's easier to find a hustle player than to find a consistent scorer.

Also, it's easier for a good offensive player to play average to good defense (schemes/matchups/etc) but it's damn hard to turn Ronnie Brewer into a 10ppg scorer.

    Defense alone doesn't win championships.

scoring gets you paid. Always has.

If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

Alot of whats being said goes both ways though while its true any player in the nba can defender with enough effort on that end i can promise you any NBA player has enough scoring ability to make a clear cut best Defensive team in the NBA with all below average offensive players still compete.NBA players wouldnt be in the NBA in the frist place if they couldnt score at a high level the offense can allways be done by committee and all though i do think teams are starting to notice that it goes both ways its also True that a gritty Defensive team with no real offense wouldnt put butsin the seats. Sadly enough Casual fans Just prefer offense..

Because defense doesn't win championships. Great teams do. Solid D is a generally a characteristic of a great team. Plain and simple anyone who thinks other wise hasn't really accurately assessed the statement.

You do realize all the guys you just named are defensive backcourt players that are extremely limited on the offensive end, right? Bowen was the same and he never got paid more than 4 million a year. Deng, Iguodala, G. Wallace have all been well paid because they can contribute in other ways besides defense.

I'd also like to point out that a premier defender in a guard/wing role will never have as large a impact on a game as a defensive big and those guys are paid extremely well(Tyson, Noah, Asik, Varejao, Bogut, etc).
