Iwakuma signs 2 year $14 million extension

Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma signed a two-year, $14 million extension with the club, CBS Sports reported Saturday.

Iwamura's new deal includes a $7 million option for 2015.

"Hisashi did a very nice job for us at the end of last season as a starting pitcher and we are happy that we have come to a mutual agreement," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said in a press release. "We look forward to his veteran presence and to his contributions for the next few seasons."

Iwakuma was 9-5 with a 3.16 earned run average in 30 appearances this year, including 8-4 with a 2.65 ERA in 16 starts.

im not totally sold on iwakuma yet bc of MLB sample size, but i think this has a chance to be a great signing with little risk of hurting us.

Good signing. Keeping key players is just as important as going out and getting others. If we can add a starter we're looking good. Then when the kids come up towards the end of the year we're even better.

“To the people in Seattle that trust me and believe in me, I’ll say this: I’m not going to disappoint anybody. I’m going to do my best. This Seattle Mariners team is going to be on top. Believe me…I will do my best, or more than my best, to get to the point of the playoffs. I’m not going to disappoint Howard and Chuck. I’ll tell you this: We are going to make the playoffs.” - Felix Hernandez

Absolutely interested in Haren. One of the most underrated in the game. He is on a pretty obvious decline, so it'd have to be a bargain
