    Haren Not Traded, Option Declined

    Mike DiGiovanna @MikeDiGiovanna
#Angels are on the verge of trading RHP Dan Haren to the #Cubs for RH reliever Carlos Marmol.

#Cubs' Marmol has reportedly confirmed trade to #Angels to media in the Dominican Republic.

    dipoto cleaning house.

If trade is finalized, Marmol would help #Angels bullpen--went 3-3 w/3.42 ERA and 20 saves--but not save much $. He makes $9.8 mill next yr.
    Alden Gonzalez @Alden_Gonzalez

Confirmed, #Angels and #Cubs swapping Haren and Marmol. Details still a little fuzzy, though.
    ----

#Cubs source says Marmol-for-Haren trade "not happening"
    Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal

Source: Marmol would have OK'ed trade to #Angels, but #Cubs pulled deal off table and trade is not happening. Angels talking to other clubs.

Seriously. There were no better offers than this? Look at his BB/9. It's atrocious.

@Alden_Gonzalez: #Angels source said Marmol-for-Haren is "headed in that direction." #Cubs

I find it hard to believe that was the best offer

Are you ****ing kidding me!? Our rotation is utter trash now. And our bullpen honestly won't be much better with yet another average player with a heavy contract being thrown in there. A decent/good starter >>>> decent reliever.

Marmol's second half stats were actually decent. Still a high walk rate, but he did much better.

I'll admit I thought he was way worse until I looked at his numbers. For some reason I thought he had an ERA above 6 last season. The walks are terrible though an always have been

Still doesn't make the trade anywhere near good.

Agreed, just looking for a bright spot. Maybe we'll all get proven wrong.

If he continues to use his fastball you guys will be shoked at how good he can be at times. His issue is he starts relying on his slider way too much at times. If he contiues using his heater to set up the slider LOOOOK OUUUT!

How does he do when out of the closer role? He seems like the type of guy who decides to only pitch effectively in that type of situation.
