I'd think it'd take a good amount to get Johnson, but then I also think about how dumb Mia FO is.

I sure hope we are still in discussions for him.

I'm done trying to guess what this FO is thinking about doing.

This also might help convince other free agents like McCarthy, Marcum or anyone else to come here. We are going to have a pretty legit rotation next year.

    Fantastic move.

Garza/Samardzija/Haren/Wood. Anyone saying we can't possibly compete with that start to a rotation and a whole offseason to improve the offense is nuts.

this should NOT rule us out of acquiring JJ from Miami either. especially if we didnt trade any prospects for Haren

At this point I'd rather just go after Greinke.

And then. He made them pancakes.

No matter who the 5th starter is, that's a pretty solid rotation.

Twist: Now I'm told reports of the deal are still premature -- #Angels still active in discussions with more than one team.

I'm going to do my thing and be optimistic that they're going to address 3b and the outfield and we end up with an okay group of position players. Something like this is what I'm expecting at this point:

    CF - Victorino
    RF - Dejesus
    SS - Castro
    1b - Rizzo
    LF - Soriano
    C - Castillo
    3b - Polanco
    2b - Barney

    Garza/Shark/Haren/Marcum/Wood

One of Vitters/Jackson traded for a fairly good pitching prospect.

That's basically the Oakland A's heading into last year. Below average but not terrible offense, above average defense, and a pitching staff that if things go right can really go places. Now it's very unlikely everything comes together, I expect Theoyer to at least put a team together that has a real shot to make some noise if it does.

Agreed. I'm scared to death of both of their right shoulders but this makes the Cubs more attractive. Marcum claims he'll sign with a contender, but you could easily convince him the Cubs are a contender with him. Plus he gets to stay in the NL Central, which he probably wouldn't hate...
