It really just looks this is a paperwork issue. I presume that Marmol has to sign something saying he's waiving his NTC, and the commissioner has to formally approve the money involved.

So officially there is "no deal," But it's just a formality.

It's going to be hell to try and find out about moves before they are official with this front office. Nothing ever leaks, and they will just be even more tight-lipped now with the Dempster and now Marmol debacles.

Unless we extend Haren or ship him off at the deadline for prospects then well this deal is nothing of real importance.

In 2009, the following Cubs had FULL no-trade clauses:

Carlos Zambrano, Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Ted Lilly, Kosuke Fukudome, Jeff Samardzija. (not counting Derrek Lee and Ryan Dempster, who had 10/5 rights)

To put this in perspective, the only team with more than HALF of that were the Giants, with 4.

The amount of NTC's given out by Hendry really wasn't a big deal. Regardless you don't give those NTC's you don't win back to back division titles.
