With interviews scheduled to begin this week, sources have identified five contenders for the job: Dan Plesac; Rick Sutcliffe; Eric Karros; Todd Hollandsworth; and Gary Matthews.

Any of these except Plesac. His blue train act was great, but in the booth he is just flat out unbearable. Just ****ing awful. Worse than 100 Steve Stones. I will be listening to most opposing broadcasts if it's him and Lenny. Nobody will be happy with him for more than a few days in the booth. Some will go a lot quicker than others, but he will slowly kill all of us.

I would be fine with any of the other 4. Sutcliffe is my top choice!

I hope that Len is highly involved with the hiring process.

He's about as good as they come for play by play guys who root for the team they cover but also stay objective about it. I think Karros would do well at that, too. Sutcliffe would be cool to have for a few years, probably. I could see fans getting tired of him, though.

Is it just me or does Karros have a bit of a speech impediment or something? Can't quite decribe what it is exactly, but it's on the "s" sounds. It wouldn't affect my decision at about who should be the color commentator, but I never noticed it until now.
