I honestly don't remember the Montero part.. But I thought that they were discussing a deal, didn't officially have one in place and Soria made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with NYC, and since he had a NTC there was no more talks. I'll admit I phrased it wrong above.

nah they were discussing a deal but it never got to the point where Soria was asked to waive his NTC.

he is a possibility seeing as how the Yankees have been interested in him for years. Would be a great fit he could be a setup man for a year then become the closer after Rivera retires

    Yankees Offseason Wishlist

    1. Trade 2 of Mccann,Beltran,Texeria,CC,Tanaka
    2. Resign Robertson
    3. Sign Andrew Miller
    4. Sign 1 of Fernandez or Shields

Don't you get it, our players suck!!! We need to be making moves to win!!! Just ask JesusMontero and Vintage. To them, no one on the Yankees can play baseball.

Royals wanted him signed the NTC was just a little something to make Soria feel in control of where he wanted to go

Royals closer Joakim Soria is under contract through 2014 at a rather affordable rate and the Royals havenít so much as hinted at a desire to move him, but that doesnít mean we wonít be hearing his name involved in trade rumors over the next few weeks. Crazy season is officially upon us.

With so many teams in contention here in mid-July and all of those teams seeking a reliable reliever, itís possible that the Royals will get an offer they like.

So, just in case, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports brings us the six teams on Soriaís no-trade list: Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers, Rockies and Braves.

    Actual link or source?

This is a dude who never hit free agency. There's no reason KC would have given him a NTC. Well, it is the Royals, so all bets are off, I suppose....

I'd take a stab at him, aside from his one off year/injury, he's been money.

    If he's cheap, why not?

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Loved him in KC, think he'd be great for us.

the fact that they wanted montero + for a releiver is what stopped it, not a NTC

well it looks like he wants to sign here:

Oscar Suarez, the agent for Joakim Soria, has received calls from eight contending teams expressing interest in his client, writes Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. Suarez has yet to hear from Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, but says that Soria would be more than willing to pitch in a setup role for his idol, Mariano Rivera:

"If the Yankees call, we will be all ears," Soria's agent, Oscar Suarez, said by phone Monday. "If there is a fit, Joakim would be elated to work with Mo. He would close everywhere except there."

Suarez tells Marchand that Soria is "not a greedy individual," and he could envision his client signing quickly if the right situation arises. Soria's preference is to sign with a contending team. According to Suarez, Soria will be able to participate in Spring Training but is unlikely to pitch in a Major League game until May next season.

Yup here's the link on ESPN http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yan...or-the-yankees

The way I see it is this is Mo's last year. If your add Soria, you have a three horse race for the Closer next year with Robertson and Soria as the favorites and Joba as the dark horse. It's a step towards a stable and viable bullpen in the post Mariano era.
