    Red Zone and 3rd down

Last year the 49ers were awful on both third down and in the red zone. Seeing as how we have hit the halfway point of the season, I thought we should look at how the team is doing in those areas this year.

    Third Down Conversion Rate
    2011: 29.4% (31st)
    2012: 37.8% (20th)

Still needs to be better, but at least there is improvement.

    Red Zone Touchdown Rate
    2011: 40.7% (30th)
    2012: 60.7% (8th)

    Pretty noticeable difference here.

Its nice to see the progression. Better then last year when you knew the odds were slim on any 3rd down over 3 yards. I am way more confident. Hell, even on 3rd and long I feel pretty decent. I didnt research it, but it seems like a couple games really dropped our conversion rate. Love the redzone rate though. Thats the difference in our 24-3 wins instead of 13-3 wins from last year.

In other news, Niners still aren't doing enough to satisfy Derek.

I can almost 100% contribute our 3rd down conversion rate improvement to Crabs. He is the go to guy, and has been remarkable on YAC this season. If he continues in that growth, I expect those number to climb into the top 10.

And F'N HOARY on the Red Zone!! About frigg'n time, as a fan that the most frustrating thing about last year to me (other than of course the divisional playoff game).

Eh the only stats I care about are from the packers, giants, and seahawks games. The other games will inflate our stats big time. Since we have super bowl expectations the only thing that matters is how we're doing against possible playoff teams. Im excited for the 2nd half of the season since we're playing the bears, saints, patriots, and seahawks again. We'll really see where we're at going into the playoffs. Hopefully we get the NFC #2 seed. The Falcons will have the #1 seed.

It's nice to see the team improving on their most glaring shortcomings.

So, the other teams that we are comparing against don't play teams that inflate their stats?

Nope, all the other teams play the best team in the league every single week.
